What are some of the best shows that were canceled in the last year?
I’ll start:
Lie to Me
Caprica
Stargate Universe
Terriers
Some of these may have been planned obsolescence:
The Closer
Men of a Certain Age
Rescue Me
BTW, “Shows I liked” does not necessarily equal “Best”.
Gotta be Terriers. Every second of it was terrific. I like to think of it as a miniseries that just didn’t realize it was a miniseries until afterward. It deserved a lot better.
Friday Night Lights
Rubicon.
Got flack for being too boring, but I love cerebral conspiracy, shadowy big bad guys type of shows.
I second *Rubicon *and Stargate: Atlantis.
The Good Guys
Terriers
and in a distant third
Lie to Me.
Batman: the Brave and the Bold
Hellcats
Sonny with a Chance
Chicago Code.
Definitely Rubicon and Terriers. Not my usual fare, but I absolutely loved them.
I also thought The Good Guys was underrated, and there was a little known show for teens called Unnatural History that deserved at least one additional season.
Of these, I’ve only seen (and seen many episodes of) Men of a Certain Age and *Rescue Me. *
Men I’d give an “A-minus” – love it. Sad to see it end. I don’t think it was planned obcelesence.
Rescue I’d give a “C-plus” – I enjoyed the first couple of seasons, then tired of it. Its conclusion was planned, long ago – to coincide with the 10th anniversary of 9-11.
Definitely opened the thread to post this one. Annoyingly, I never even heard of it while it was running (and we watch a lot of TV), so I didn’t even see it until I pulled it up on Netflix well after it was canceled.
One of the funniest things on TV ever, and it was probably killed through a lack marketing.
Plus one to that. It still lives on my DVR, though.
Outsourced
Terriers
Human Target (why does Fox hate America?)
And though it still has another season left (already filmed, if I am reading the news correctly) Eureka.
I watched, and somewhat enjoyed Men of a Certain Age, but Romano annoyed me. He was nearly as annoying as he was in Everybody Loves Raymond. But Braugher more than made up for him, and Bakula was pretty good, maybe his best work. So I should include that.
I also watch Rescue Me, but it is time to shut it down. Same could be said for Breaking Bad and Chuck, which have one more season left. Shows cannot continue indefinitely. It is best when shows know they are ending so they can attempt a satisfying conclusion, versus a cold ending.

Just kidding, it’ll be back September 22.
I don’t know about Men of a Certain Age, but both The Closer and *Rescue Me *are ending when they mean to. I rather think the former could go another year if they felt like it, but best to leave when the creators feel like it than because the suits are saying “Get out, and take your damn dog with you!”
My vote -* Terriers*
I was also a big fan of Outsourced and *The Defenders *but I can understand why they may not have made it.
But Terriers’ only fault was that it had a stupid title. Everything alse about it was pure gold.
