"The Big Easy" IR pseudo-fryer

Forgive the nonsensical thread title, but after reading this thread, it reminded me that I need to get some opinions on [URL="http://www.charbroil.com/Consumer/product_detail_m.aspx?ProductSeriesID=95, the Char-Broil “Big Easy” oil-less turkey fryer.

I like deep-fried turkey, but due to the considerable expense, danger, and bother of purchasing, storing, using, etc. a fryer I have never bought one. The above-mentioned infrared “fryer” would make everything a good deal easier . . . if it works, and if it can be used for more than just frying turkeys. Anybody out there used one of these things? Do they work? Are they worth the money?
Thanks,
RR

I’d say go for it, though if this thing can do a 16lb bird, it’d imagine it’s pretty big too. And the price is just about what you’d pay for a decent, well-made, SAFE turkey fryer anyway. Looks like cooking time is a bit longer with this, but I’d agree it’s probably safer.

I will say this though: I use my fryer for a lot more than frying turkeys. I’ve used mine for southern crawfish boils, steaming lobsters and clams, boiling a crapload of corn on the cob, and even for making a big pot of chili for Superbowl parties. With this, unless I’m mistaken, all you can do is “fry” meats.
