We fly through the window… Arriving early we drop in on… While we watch… We, we, we, we!
Can somone tell me that they change the narrative voice at some stage in the book? 1st person, fine. 2nd person, somewhat distracting but ok. 3rd person, tried and true. What the heck do you even call this style? It’s not even 2nd person plural since “we” are entirely outside the action (so far anyhow). I feel like I have absolutly no control of my own read. Not enjoying this “sports commentator” narrative voice. Please reassure me that it stops, otherwise I may not be able to continue.
and I so enjoyed The Talisman, it was a very nice read.
Grr… well perhaps knowing it won’t stop will help me settle in to it. I have been rushing so far, not reading properly, wanting to get past this “intro”. I am 200 pages in… can’t work out if I am an optimist or a fool (yeah both I know).
To hijack my own thread, I must ask, how do collaborations like this work? I thought that I could hear Kings tone very strongly in The Talisman. Here I don’t know who I am listening to.
I’d like to know that I’m not the only one who thinks that everything about the novel-- its POV, its storyline, its characters, and its relationship with The Talisman– stinks.
Well, I loved, loved, love the Talisman. In preparation for release of Black House, I re-read The Talisman, and was reminded of how much I loved it. Black House has a totally different tone to it, but I still enjoyed it. It does take a while to get into, though.
BTW, is it just me, or would an edited version of The Talisman make a great animated kids’ adventure flick?
