Tonight I saw the Broken Family Band at what is looking to be the last gig ever at the Boat Race. They were great, by the way.
The Boat Race is a Cambridge live alternative music venue holding around 200 people that has helped kick of the careers of British bands including Oasis, The Darkness and Franz Ferdinand. It has also given many local bands and artists an audience, and Cambridge residents and students who enjoy live music a place to listen to it.
The Boat Race has already been sold to Enterprise Inns and a new landlord appointed, but there is an ongoing petition to persuade them keep hosting live events. The current rumours are that it will become a wine bar, and Cambridge certainly has enough of them.
Wherever you are in the world, if you’ve ever enjoyed a gig at a venue like the Boat Race, perhaps you’d like to sign the petition by sending your name and address to themachine@209radio.co.uk (taken from the second link at the top). It would mean a lot to many people in Cambridge if we could still see bands at the Boat Race.
Thanks a lot,
Bernie Klein
