The Bodyguard - finally saw it tonight

Lifetime is running a Whitney tribute tonight. Bodyguard is on now, and then her biography special. Then The Bodyguard runs again later tonight.

It’s pretty good. I’d never seen it before. I had seen *Guarding Tess *and hated it. So I wasn’t really expecting much from The Bodyguard. Turns out its a really good movie. There’s an older feel to it like it was made in the 60’s or 70’s. I guess because it was originally a screenplay for Steve McQueen. He never made it and eventually Costner got the script in 1990.

I liked the way they ended it. Really good movie. I enjoyed the older feel with long shots and not a bunch of frantic MTV style camera cuts. So many action movies make you dizzy.

Never realized Whitney had so much potential as an actress. She could have had an outstanding career if drugs hadn’t come along.

I was very surprised to see the guy from Spandau Ballet in this movie. He didn’t even sing. He did a good job as her Publicist/Agent Sy. The guy that looks like Morgan Feeman is always good. Even though he’s not Morgan Freeman. Never can remember this guys name but he always does a great character role.

No one else watched this since Whitney’s death? Its been on various channels ever since she died.

I’m kicking myself for not watching it 15 years ago. Its a really good movie and I’ve never really liked Kevin Costner movies. This one was a lot different from the over the top movies he usually makes.
There were a few plot holes. Like the stalker guy never got resolved. He was in the crowd after the awards show shooting. But, the cops do know his name in case the letters resume. I still have trouble believing he got in the house and jerked off on Whitney’s bed. Stalker guy seemed pretty amateurish.

I didn’t understand taking Whitney out to a cabin. She can’t hide there for long and stalkers don’t give up. At that point bodyguard dude thought he was only dealing with a stalker. Out there alone against another trained former Secret Service agent was a pretty big bodyguard error.

But, this movies strength was the characters. Nearly all of them were well drawn.
We watched it last night, too - it hasn’t stood up to the test of time perfectly, but it was still entertaining enough to keep me up an hour past my bedtime.

Best line of the movie - Kevin Costner’s character (The Bodyguard, Frank) and Rachel’s original bodyguard have a big fight, with Frank kicking the holy shit out of the bigger guy without breaking a sweat (or a word being exchanged). Frank’s line as he walks away - “I don’t want to talk about this again.”
