Why is Bruce Springsteen so important? Don’t get me wrong, I really like him as a musician, but why is he seen as being so important? Like how Rolling Stone magazine called him “the voice of the '80s.” Of course, my only memories of the '80s consist of The Gogos and the B-52s, so maybe someone else can tell me why Springsteen means to much to people?
Hmmmmm… no big hair, no makeup, no jumpsuits, tight pants or open shirts, no fireworks or lasershows, no glitz, no crotch-grabbing…
Just music, finely crafted with catchy tunes and meaningful lyrics and shows longer than anyone else’s, that’s it!
Nope, can’t see the attraction, myself.
Well, I’d love to answer but I am a bit biased. You see I am from New Jersey. And The Boss says “Nothing matters in this whole wide world, when you’re in love with a Jersey Girl” Sigh

I was with Brucie all the way until ‘Born in the USA’ (ok, it’s a misunderstood track but the album was just sub U2 ‘stadium rock’). So, I left him.
Then ‘Nebraska’ brought me back.
So, what’s he about…he’s my generation (older but not a lot), never totally lost touch with his roots (and came back to them musically and culturally) and voices well his emotions (for a male rock musician),
Just kind of grew up with him, he’s real, people relate and warm to him, he’s pretty genuine and he’s bloody good at what he does, in my view. A good bloke, man of the people stuff.
Little known fact: At the height of the Miner’s strike in the early 1980’s (Margaret F*cking Thatcher relentlessly destroying an entire culture for pure political gain), Brucie visited the wife’s of the strikers and donated a desperately needed $50,000 to the cause.
“Screen door slams, Mary’s dress waves, like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays…”
