THE BROWNS ARE BACK!!!!!!

Even though I’m a die-hard Raider fan, it was good to see the ol’ Brownies come back. Despite all the tradition, we gotta remember they’re still an expansion team and will probably play shitty all year.

As opposed to my fuckin’ Raiders. Prevent defense against one of the NFLs best QBs in Bret Favre. What’s that old adage?..“The prevent defense prevents you from winning.”

I live in Ohio, but I was never raised to like any of the Ohio sports teams. I’m glad the Browns are back, though. It gives Jacksonville two more easy wins, and half of my fantasy football team is made up of Jacksonville players. To be honest, if they stay healthy and look as good as they did on Sunday, I think they’ll be Super Bowl contenders. They were kinda overlooked in the whole NYJ and Miami hoopla, but it looks like the Jets may essentially be out of the picture. Wouldn’t an all-Florida AFC championship be cool? Kinda like that all-Ohio World Series we’ve been wanting this year…

However, any post of mine about football would be empty and meaningless if I didn’t mention my beloved Bills. Of course, they’re gonna suck this year, and I’m the only Bills fan I know who realizes that Flutie isn’t going to pull it off two seasons in a row, but I’ve always been a realist, and I’ll still always love my Bills. Suck on, Buffalo!

Great, another Ohio Bills fan! The AFC East is going to be tough this year, I think each team has a shot at winning the division. The Bills need a running game desperately, Flutie can not do it all by himself. Until A. Smith and the offensive line steps it up then the Bills will struggle. The Jets game next week is a big game for the Bills.

As for the Browns, Couch may start sooner than expected. The Browns have some good players, Jamir Miller for one, but not a team yet.

I am looking forward to Pittsburgh – Jacksonville. That promises to be a great game!

Peace on Earth = Purity Of Essence

Until November ‘95 I was a diehard Browns fan, but since then I couldn’t care less. To me, the NFL is like a beautiful women that I loved who then left me for another who had more money, but who then offered to come back if I would give her even more money. That’s not requited love, that’s prostitution. There’s plenty of interesting football to follow without the NFL. Here in Cleveland we have a pro football team called St. Ignatius High School that puts on a better show than the Browns did against the Steelers on 9/12/99. There’s also a pro team in Columbus called the OSU Buckeyes, and one in South Bend called the Fightin’ “We don’t need to practice our 2 minute offense” Irish that I follow without missing the NFL the least little bit. What surprised me about the 1996-98 football seasons was how easy it was to find things to do on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights without the NFL. What I learned in October 1995 is that they aren’t the Cleveland Browns at all, they were the Modell Browns, and now they’re the Al Lerner/Carmen Policy Browns, and in 10 years they’ll be the McDisneySoft Corporation Browns for all I care. All I want is for the NFL to take their TV billions and build their own stadiums with the money, rather than soaking us taxpayers for the cost.

For your whine…

It is good to see the Browns back.
They have been my favorite AFC team since Kevin Mack and Ernest Byner punished opposing defenses for 1000 yards.

But I find it surprising that I am the first to mention being a die hard Lions fan? Does no one else bleed Honolulu Blue and Silver?

(For the sarcasm impaired, that was sarcasm. Although I do love my Lions!)

PatrickM: My HS (St. John’s Jesuit)played St. Ignatius in mnay sports, inluding football. We always put up a fight, and it seemed like a bit of a rivalry. The games where always fun to watch, and I do belive that those games were a lot of the time more exciting than some college or NFL games. But those days are gone now, and haven’t kept up on who has kicked whose ass.

Satan:

I’m not whining, I’m just still mad at the NFL and everything that goes with it. I was just as mad at MLB when it cancelled the 1994 season, but I love baseball and they are the only supplier (minor league baseball is subsidized by the majors, and college baseball just isn’t as prevelant as college football or basketball). The NFL told me in 1995 that I wasn’t a good enough customer for them, that they preferred Baltimore, so since then I’ve held a grudge.

Incidentally, the proper football themed response should have been “Have a cheese-head” with that whine.

Hmm…clearly that strategy didn’t work to well, did it? And the Redskins self-destructing was the only way the Giants could have won. DAMN, they looked bad…

This would be kinda cool to keep this thread going all season, and listen to Cowgod (or any other’s) commentary on their teams as the season progresses (or degenerates, depending on your team)

RAIDERS 22, VIKINGS 17!!! woo hoooo!
Next stop— da BEARS!!

Does anyone know who won last Sunday night’s Jets-Bills game and the score of said game? I’ve been without cable or internet access for ages, and now that I have one of the two, I’d rather catch up with this board than spend time on NFL.com.

The Bills beat us, 17-3. We looked like shit. Same old Jets.

It’s really too bad…I was at the bar for the first quarter, getting heckled by about 17 Jets fans (there were two of us Bills fans, and we were making some noise). Unfortunately, the score was 0-0 when I left to go put together my waterbed. I wish I could have stayed to rub it in to those assholes. I would never heckle a fan in public, even if she was wearing a Bills hat with her Bruce Smith jersey. It’s bad karma.

No, we’d disappoint ourselves every year even if we didn’t create karma.

Great block by the Flutemeister! I wish more NFL players could play with the heart and determination of Flutie. Even though I’m not a Bills fan, I appreciate good play. That was a good play for a QB.

Gee, Satan, I’d never heard that one before…

Hey, DB… I dissed my own beloved team there! No need to be snide…

Oh, another thing, DB:

WIDE RIGHT!

I could see that one coming from, what was it, about thirty eight yards away.
