They probably suspected that she wasn’t Indian, but was a Berkeley-born Caucasian named for a 60’s folk rock group.
Those who are subversives will not get fruit cup!

You know you would just expect an incumbent’s campaign to be more professional than this.
Further, once they were caught being stupid, they rushed to blame the Secret Service. How tacky.
Somehow, the idea of the Secret Service or the CIA relying on a google search for intelligence scares me. This is probably how stuff like the “Cuban Hooker” and “Nigerian yellowcake” end up coming out of the President’s mouth.
Well, it was the military’s fault for putting up the “Mission Accomplished!” banner, after all. And the CIA’s fault for giving the President the faulty WMD information he told them to give him. The Glorious Leader can’t be held responsible for these matters, they are below his station.
Aye. It’s not like a terrorist network would have difficulty organizing a Google-bombing.
It was a wild eyed liberal named Richard Nixon that first recognized that"white",“black”, “American Indian”, and “other” weren’t providing a whole picture of the population in states such as California and Texas, and he helped popularize terms like “Hispanic” and “Asian-American”. His administration had this wild communist notion that it would be a good idea to know things such as which students were more prone to drop out of high school or which people tended to have lower incomes. But, as paranoid and racist as he was, I don’t think he used these data to screen journalists or photographers.

Plus that flaming pinko George W. Bush has made quite an issue of recognizing “diversity” throughout his career (I should know, as I’ve seen him up close in Texas for years). But how can you recognize diversity if you don’t document it. The whole point of collecting this data is to prevent discrimination by identifying (to use George W. Bush’s words) “unequal results” in areas such as high school graduation. And Bush and Rove have made a very big deal about reaching a certain percentage of the African-American and Hispanic vote in each of their elections.
Now I’ll be the first to say (as a “Hispanic” person who is nearly fully European by ancestry) that these categories are overly broad, unscientific, and prone to abuse. I also think reverse discrimnation against straight white English speaking males is not the answer. But if it weren’t for these check boxes, we would be back to the days of 80% drop out rates for minority kids and open employment discrimination.
OK, I can see it’s perfectly legitimate for the Secret Service to want to know exactly who to expect when somebody knocks on the door and says “Hi, I’ve got an appointment with the VP”.
But if they want to know what the person looks like why don’t they ask for a PHOTOGRAPH in addition to name/social security number/etc? I guarrantee that’s going to be a better descriptor than “race”. I’ve got a friend who is “native American” but anyone’d think he’s a short blond German guy.
I despise President Bush with a passion usually reserved for child molesters. That said, I think I have to give him a pass on this. There is no type of political system that is immune to petty, officious burocrats. I sort of wish this one hadn’t staffed important positions like Vice President with them but oh well.
Actually he was very liberal. Even Noam Chomsky has said that Nixon was the countries last liberal president.

Also, that is not the only place he has said it.
I hate trying to use VBcode on Google cache links.
