who? what? why?
The CanaDoper Café (2012 edition of The great, ongoing Canadian current events and politics thread.)
Ryder Hesjedal won the Giro d’Italia yesterday, in one of the most exciting finishes in cycling to have happened in many years. It isn’t as well-known as the Tour de France, but it’s an impressive victory.
is he Canadian?
I’m confused, NP…if this is a joke, I’m not getting it. The headline even says “Canadian cyclist Ryder Hesjedal comes from behind to win Giro D’Italia.” It’s a pretty big deal for that sport, and rather cool to see. No other Canadian has won a world cycling major.
One week before I start working. It’s actually going to be rather weird to have a complete change of daily schedule!
Major flooding in and around Thunder Bay. Muffin, I’m hoping you’re finding this a welcome opportunity to kayak to some new spots and not a danger to you and yours!
sorry - I got confused /distracted and started surfing a different thread, and missed the link somehow. my apologies.
“Culpeper Law Office is closed for the week due to flooding. Telephone and email will resume on Tuesday, but fax will not resume until next week. Indoor kayak instruction by appointment.”
The odd thing about it is that on Thursday I was unable to leave the satellite office in Manitouwadge due to a forest fire on the edge of town.
I was thinking today how fun it would be to have an Albertan Tour for cyclists. There are flat stretches for time trials, rolling foothills, grueling climbs, descents where you have to watch the brakes so you don’t pop a tire, extremes of heat and cold (depending on the time of year.). Could be really cool.
In other news, someone apparently mailed a human foot to the headquarters of the Conservative Party.
I don’t think political debate was ever meant to be so… biohazardous. Or something.
This doesn’t have anything to do with the Conservative HQ mysteriously washing ashore on the west coast, does it?
Nah you’re mistaken. They’d never end up so far on the Left [sub]Coast[/sub].
Sadly, that’s as witty as I get tonight … ![]()
In politics, there’s always something afoot.
A lot of lefties believe the Conservatives have no sole.
That story’s been updated. A hand has been found in another package, before it got to its destination. The Ottawa police are not saying what that destination was.
Classy.
So they won’t put a finger on the destination?
I know that some of our Quebecois friends have had questions in the past about the use of French in Alberta. I found out recently that our little city is playing host to the 10th annual Alberta French Film Festival: see the link here.
I will be unable to attend, as I have other plans this weekend, but I thought our friends in Quebec might be interested. We have discussed the use of French in Alberta before, and I thought this might add to the points previously made about the use of, and interest in, French in Alberta.
Ok, on the assumption that the torso and the mailed hand/foot are related…
…what the hell goes through your mind when you kill a person and decide “Hey, I know, let’s send the foot to the Conservative Party of Canada! Yeah!!!”
I mean…what? Like killing the person wasn’t enough, you have to spend postage on his or her body parts?
I just can’t figure out how you get from point A to point B here.
ETA: Spoons - that’s cool. It also reminds me that I still haven’t seen Monsieur Lazhar and I really want to. I am so far behind on movie-watching (in either language).
Someone’s really gone out on a limb…
