Ok, why are there no threads with The Cardigans in the title? Time to fix that.
If you’re a Cardies/iTunes fan, check out their interview/rerecordings album on iTunes today - it’s pretty darn good. I’m not a big fan of listening to interviews (although Nina’s voice makes it pretty easy to pay attention), but I really like the “iTunes original” versions of a few of their songs. Most notably is a song I was getting pretty tired of, “My Favorite Game,” but the rerecording is just awesome. It has kind of a live, underproduced sound, and the guitar sounds sweet. Makes me want to grab my guitar actually (unfortunately I don’t know how to play MFG). A few from the new album are good too, including “For What It’s Worth,” “Please Sister,” and my most played song “Communication.”
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, a few of their other new songs are just the same version from “Long Gone Before Daylight,” which is disappointing. I’d love to hear new versions of “03.45: No Sleep” and “Live and Learn” and “Feathers and Down.” Ah well.
Speaking of “Long Gone Before Daylight” - I was blown away by how good this album was. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Anyone else listening to the Cardigans these days?
I like them, both their music and Nina Persson’s looks. They made an in-store appearance at a local (Atlanta) shop called Criminal Records a few years ago.
Nina was in jeans and no makeup, but she was still every bit as incandescently beautiful as in all those magazine covers and music videos.
What what what? Their Sabbath covers are the only thing that gives them any credibility in my book. Most of their songs are catchy, and Nina’s voice is just beautiful, but I would’ve quickly written them off as guilty pleasure music (I’d listen to the albums but not admit it to anyone) if they hadn’t done the covers to say, “Yeah, we get it.”
Their cover of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” is my favorite Cardigans song, and “Daddy’s Car” is my favorite of their original stuff.
That song cropped up on “120 Minutes” a few too many times and caused me to resent it greatly. I may be able to listen to it and not wince in 10 years or so.
You should really check out their newer stuff, from “Gran Turismo” and “Long Gone Before Daylight.” Nothing like they’re older, more poppy stuff. If you have Real Player, check out the videos for “Live and Learn,” “For What It’s Worth,” and “You’re The Storm,” all of which are from the new album.
Unfortunately they don’t have their best song on there, “Communication.” The three that they do have videos for are great though, especially “Live and Learn.” Check it out!
