The Celebrity Death Pool 2004

 Just how many times have you typed “But nobody picked him/her” in this thread?

Wooooo Hooooooo! My ape-whisperer finally came in after, what…6 freaking years!
I’m on the boards, in kinda in con-ten-tion…only if I hit an incredible stupendeous ultraorgasmic tri-fec-ta.

A gal can dream.

According to CNN, Julia Child has died at age 91.

(And a world of plump, juicy chickens breathed a sigh of relief.)

The one person on my list that I was kinda hoping to be wrong about.

I find it funny that 10 minutes ago I read about Julia Child keeled over and this thread pops up again.

Ahhhh… the joys of life.

With the death of Julia Child, the following eleven contestants pick up nine points each:

earthpuppy and
Mudshark are still tied with 54 points each, but are now in third place!

Uvula Donor now has 30 points.

Munch now has 29 points.

Cicada2003 now has 19 points.

BiblioCat
mishaa
Nurse Carmen
and
Wicked Blue - now have 16 points.

and welcoming two newcomers to the scoreboard:

Ataraxy and
JavaMaven1 - tied with 9 points each.

Congratulations, scorers!

Every time Death swings his scythe, this thread gets bumped. It must be sitting too close.

Since I’m scoring so well with my first wading into the death pool, I gotta know: Is there any special recognition for those who make it through the year with 0? (publicly awarded derisive laughter would be good enough, because I’m a budding attention ho)

Yeah…we’ll all just perform a group snicker at ya. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m already thinking ahead to next year’s game. I’m afraid that with the move to subscriptions, we’ll get only about 15 submissions… I hope we can recruit some new players come December! hint, hint

I’ve already got a list I’m working on. You’re intending to use the same rules as this year, right?

Yup.

If it makes you feel better, this thread is the reason I got a subscription. I don’t know if that’s lame or something to be proud of.

I’ll be here too. I don’t think a narrower playing field takes any of the fun out the game myself.

How many of this year’s poolers didn’t cough up the $5/$10/$15?

I did a quick scroll-through of this years entries. Roughly 25 lists were submitted by poolers who now have either GUEST or MEMBER under their names instead of CHARTER MEMBER.

I think we ought to have a “bonus points” system for people who can guess how many new threads will be started when an individual celebrity dies. Or maybe take away points for anyone who starts a duplicate thread.

Not very likely that anyone picked him, but Nobel Prize winning poet Czelaw Milosz is dead at 93.

Nope, nobody picked him.

Me too. I have around forty people that I think might die next year. It is going to be very hard to narrow it down to 13.

My significant other, Ebola Gay, falls into this category.

She’s very conflicted now, as she just made a very impressive debut in the SDMB Death Pool with the 44 points she scored with the death of Rick James.

For now, she’s not going to pony up the dough, in large part because she was a very infrequent poster anyway.

But if she wins the SDMB 2004 Death Pool, you can bet your life (heh, heh) she’ll re-register and send in the required cash to the Chicago Reader… just so she can bask in the glory of the copious adulation that will come her way for winning such a prestigious competition.
