The Celebrity Death Pool 2005

The King guy? Because I transliterate by ear too much I suppose. I simply do not spell Arabic in any normal way. Still, I got his points, right?

I put together an Excel file that automatically calculates the scores. Those who are interested are welcome to take a look.

This was a mammoth task and I worked on it for over 15 hours over a four day period. As hard as I tried to keep it accurate, I’m sure some errors have slipped in. If you find any, please let me know and I’ll fix them. The easiest way to check your own entry is to use the Auto Filter function and on your name, selected “Non-Blanks”.

I worked out points using Wikipedia as a reference. While it’s possible that I’ve made mistakes, I took a lot of care to try to make sure they were right. If you think I’ve put the wrong number of points against an individual, could you please provide a link to a source with the correct age at death information. Typos do tend to slip in when you’re not looking.

I hope this is useful to some.

Mainly of interest to Brit dopers I expect, but George Best (legendary football/soccer player) has been admitted to intensive care. Again.

He’s on my list.

And thanks to cazzle’s wonderful spreadsheet, we know that three other Dopers have also picked ol’ Georgie to visit the Great Football Pitch in the Sky this year.

cazzle: Very good show, mate!

Playwright August Wilson, who was diagnosed with liver cancer three months ago, has died.

Sissy couldn’t have held on for four more months? I was going to sneak him into my 2006. Oh well.

I be one of the others. BBC says his doctor has him as ‘serious but improving, with the emphasis on improving’.

cazzle, you rock. Very nice.

damn. I thought I was in third. Fifth? FIFTH? Oh well, it’s close.

Nipsey Russell has died, although it appears that no one had him.

His age is also in dispute, according to the above link.

Well I am relieved to see that I have 35 Dopers accompanying me in the “I Refused to Pick The Pope” pool…

I’ve never heard of her but a co-worker who knew her informs me that Constance Baker Motley died Friday at the age of 84, and led quite an amazing life.

Here is a very quick update, and I will update the scoreboard soon.

I suck!

Leave your personal life out of this…

I had Rehnquist too; although I think I misspelled his name on my list.

I believe I had Rehnquist, too, although it has been a long time since I have seen my list.

Just as an alternate Zamboni.
