I’ve told a couple of co-workers about this game and asked for suggestions. Naturally they are horrified and think this is an awful game, but within seconds they are saying things like, “Oh, [Name] has cancer,” or “[Name] isn’t doing very well,” or “Didn’t [Name] just get out of rehab for the third time?”
Gil McDougald, who helped the Yankees win five World Series crowns during a ten-year major-league career spent entirely with the New York team, has died at the age of 82. McDougald was the American League’s Rookie of the Year in 1951. In a cruel twist of fate, a line drive he hit during the 1957 campaign damaged the eye of Cleveland pitcher Herb Score, who had been the AL’s Rookie of the Year in 1955. Score eventually returned to the mound, but never regained the form that had caused some Indians fans to dub him “the new Bob Feller”.
In 2009, we would have an ongoing … contest* in the family to call each other once we heard of a death. This year was my first year, and I stopped calling, in part to check the thread. We talked about Nielsen, and my Mom asked me if I had him.
Glad to know that puts my Mom at stage 3.
As for stage four, I don’t think my Mom understands the exact amount of fun [[“play”]] one can have online, in all forms.
I’m not so sure my step dad even knows that one can have fun on the Internet.
Not a death pool. It was just a thing we had, if someone we knew died, we called. And this would be for big name people. Nielsen yes, the other recents, not so much.
I’m jealous of you guys who have a spouse or partner that is supportive of your Death Pool ventures. MrWhatsit won’t even let me talk about it in front of him. Party pooper.
Yeah, but it doesn’t say anything about what her condition is, or what her problem is, or anything really. And she’s uber-religious … hence the request for prayers.
She’s probably having a corn filed down or something.
I’ve figured out that all it will take is for my 7 youngest celebrities to kick the bucket in the next 29 days and I can win this thing! GO Reaper!!
…Okay, I’ll settle for not ending up tied for last. But I (along with 75 others) am 92% of the way there, so I’m not optimistic. I think my 2011 list will have some changes.
