Okay… and the Dirty Harry movie aside, I’m wondering if any of these things started up once mimeographed fanzines started. the web sure made it all easier, but I guessing there was some kind of death pool for about as long as we had Hollywood stars. So maybe even in the 1920s?
Crap. I was hoping someone would know off hand. Now I have to look into it…
Johnson and Johnson heiress Casey Johnson, dead at 30.
I began writing obituaries in 1981. We certainly did it then, but we didn’t write anything down; it was more of “I told you so!” kind of thing. “Who’s next?” “I guess _________.”
Jeez, what a sad obit.
You could have given me a million guesses Sigma, and I never would have guessed that as your job.
No offense intended, I guess someone has to do it though.
And this here [in general], is why half of the world’s great ideas will never get made.
Probably closer to 90%.
Ok, I don’t see a better time to say this than now.
I can’t be the only one getting confused to hell between the two of you, can I ?
I know its just the a the ro and the ending e, but, it’s doing me in.
Hmmmmmmm… come to think of it has any of us ever seen amarone and rosie together? :dubious: Seems to me you see one then the other, but never at the same time.
I don’t do it any more. But I did it for a long time. Weird jokes. Weird.
ETA: In newspapers, when you have a story you decide not to run, you “kill it.” As in, the editor says, “Kill that city council story.” So we would sometimes have to kill obits because we didn’t have enough information or somebody more prominent came in or we decided to hold it for the next day for some reason. So we’d call across the room: “Did you kill Mrs. Wilson? 'Cause if you didn’t, I will.”
Anyrose is much more attractive than amarone.
It is rumored that she smells better.
Now I know this violates a rule.
An anyrose by any other name would just smell like amarone.
Okay a little dead pool history can be found here:
I suppose in some sense, the earliest dead pools were the gladiator games… ah well. Better them than me.
well, amarone, we’d better fess up. How they figured it out, tho, I’ll never understand.
eta:
flattery will get you far.
eata:
There have been times I’ve read one of amarone’s posts and thought “I don’t remember typing that…”
I prefer the smell of an Amarone to a rose any day. It’s a pity I cannot afford it more often - I am making do with a Shiraz tonight.
I used to know a girl named Shiraz. Her brothers ran a winery. They were big sons of a gun.
I’m wishing I had picked Tila Tequila’s sanity. As noted above, her fiancee/wife/girlfriend Casey Johnson died a few days ago.
Tequila responded with the following “tweets”:
Okay, shock and grief can make you say and do unusual things. But wasn’t there anyone around her to tell her to go offline?
Ya figure anyone who can broadcast I just wish to have some privacy at this heartbreaking time. needs to be dragged from their home and burned at the stake at once.
This just in:
