The Celebrity Death Pool 2010

Wow, the Golden Girls are dropping like flies. 2 1/2 years ago, they were all alive.

So Betty White is the oldest Golden Girl, but last to die.

She was just a bit older than Bea Arthur.

I think it’s because she was such an animal lover and stayed so active.

Clearly my stragedy of picking the extremely old and hoping they’ll kick off is backfiring. They must be too used to being alive.

Rub it in why don’t you?

It looks like Coach John Wooden of UCLA fame is circling the hoop.

Although he’s only worth a free throw.

I don’t have Wooden, but if I did he would be worth an infinite amount of points more than I already have.

For the sake of doing anything beside what I get paid to do, I decided to count up my list of long living celebrities and see what kind of score I would have if they all croaked by the end of the month: 161 points. Sheesh. What are the odds? Come on, you grim reaper! Off you tombstone and get busy!

That would have got you 17th place last year, but I think scores will be lower this year.

Mind you, they all have to die by the end of the month. I start losing points as birthdays arrive…

Still half a year to go, but I certainly went with the concept of picking the old and the infirm as “sure things” and so far coming up empty. I’m already toying with a new concept for next year… I figure it wouldn’t be any fun to just keep playing the same list over and over again.

John Wooden has passed away.

For those that got fouled on a lay-up, he is worth the conversion to the traditional 3-pt play.

RIP Coach

Godspeed, Coach.

What a life. To be in your 30’s seeing World War II and to see the computer rise and take over as a dominant technology. Amazing.

Anyone get the 1 point for him?

Former Stereophonics drummer has been found dead. Doubt if anyone had him.

Adriana Xenides, former hostess on the Australian version of Wheel of Fortune, dead at 54.

A couple of sports related deaths over the weekend:

Jim Copeland, former Cleveland Brown player and former Univ of Virginia Athletic Director, has died at age 65.

Nelson Stokely, former Louisiana-Lafayette Football Coach, has died at age 66.

Isley Brother Marvin Isley dead at 56.

Personal to me because I met him.

I was close. Damn!

One that would not be well known over here (and I did not notice when he passed away last month)

Gabriel Vargas

He was the creator of La Familia Burrón (The Burron Family), it was very popular comic in Latin America.

His popularity and importance could be compared to the one of Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey and Hi and Louis) in the USA.

Country music star Jimmy Dean dies at age 81.

For the record, I did not know that there was a Meat Industry Hall of Fame.
