I don’t think so. I lost his seat in 2008, I think, because of allegations of accepting bribes and/or gifts. The case against his was later tossed out because of prosecutorial misconduct.
But I did a search for Stevens and ABSCAM and I didn’t find anything suggesting he was involved.
On another subject, Sean O’Keefe survived the crash.
On further perusal, he’s way too young to be that guy. ABSCAM was in 1978. And now Wiki tells me the guy who didn’t fall was Larry Pressler of South Dakota.
Oh no, he wasn’t too young. I did find quotes from him about his colleagues who got embroiled in ABSCAM. At the time he was the Senate minority whip. He served in the Senate for 40 years.
Another old school crook who actually believed in sending some money to the
people who elected him. Those were the days. Now all these thieves can’t wait
to become lobbyist themselves and line their pockets even more.
Sad to think that criminals like Stevens and Rostenkowski represent a better time for
Congress, but they do.
Whaddya know - I go offline for a couple of days and nearly miss someone saying something nice about me. Thank you.
If my points lead would hold up to the end of the year making me a posthumous winner, I am sure the creative minds here could come up with an excellent epitaph.
We can bury your ashes in my ssiter’s back yard, next to our uncle. FYI, We buried his ashes next to bush, and it killed the bush. So now there’s more room in the yard!!
Another rules question. If you kill yourself in some spectacular way, or in a spectacularly stupid way, and become famous by the means of your death, are you eligible?
Though honestly, unless you know someone who is planning something, I can’t imagine how any of us would know to pick someone like that.
