The Celebrity Death Pool 2010

Not is it’s a car door, and they’ve just slammed it preparatory to driving drunk.

Stephen J. Cannell, the prolific writer-producer of dozens of TV series that included “The Rockford Files” and “The A-Team,” has died at age 69.

YAY!

To someone who is currently working her way through The Rockford files DVDs, and who at one point watched four different Cannell shows every week, this is sad news indeed.

When Aaron Spelling Productions went public, my mother, a longtime stock watcher, asked me if I wanted her to buy me some stock. I told her that I’d wait until I could own a piece of Stephen J. Cannell Productions.

While not exactly in order of importance, we have recently had a director, a film editor, an actor, an actress and a screen writer die.

We need a stunt man, a character actor, musical composer and a producer or studio head to round out the set.

My list is loaded with character actors. So they’ll be safe.

We don’t “need” anyone save the folks remaining on my list.

Good point. Has anyone ever gone through their entire list in a short period of time? I keep hoping, but my row of cabbages refuses to be picked.

Do you get a second batch of names if you exhaust your list in January*?
Anticipatory Amaronism:

  • All things are possible through games moderated by me. :smack:

How about Joe Mantell, who was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1956 for his part as the title character’s friend in Marty? Mantell also uttered one of the great closing lines in film – “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.” He passed away at the age of 94.

If you get through your list in January, we are going to want to know full details of your whereabouts, and all the recently-deceased.

Since I started moderating, the number of correct picks by the winner has been:

2007: 7
2008: 8
2009: 9

Currently the most this year is only 5.

That’s for the winner. If my entire list died suddenly today, I wouldn’t have the most points, but the list of 13 would be cleared. Although, I suppose the winner also has the highest count.

Still three months to go. Big holidays coming up. Stats frequently show men dying before a holiday and women after. Things to look forward to.

Best of luck everyone! Here’s hoping for a good fall harvest!

Norman Wisdom. 5 points to a35362.

Yay for me! (Oh – sorry Mr. Wisdom. RIP and all that.)

And Albania declares a national day of mourning…

Farc leader “Mono Jojoy” killed in raid. Certainly a point where ‘celebrity’ and ‘infamous’ run together.

Roy Ward Baker director of such classics as Five Million Years to Earth has died at the age of 93.

Sheesh. Doubt anyone had him either.

That left 4,999,907 years.
Missed it by that much*. /Maxwell Smart

Well, on the Cosmic Level, right?

Soul singer Solomon Burke dead at 70. The UK obit lists him at 30 stone, and if I have the conversion correct that means 420 pounds. That’s one big man. Heck, that’s two big men.

Gonna pull a Garfield here*. You do need to take height into consideration.

I’m 6 3 and some change. WeightWatchers wanted me at 200**. I’m not sure how you mean “two big men”, **but per each “big man” it could be a lot worse. **However, I am going to assume Solomon was not 6 3.

**At the time, I figured It would be great if I could get to 215. I would have lost 101 pounds. I got down to 254 in 2007. Don’t ask after that. And yes, I am upset with getting half way there, and not going further. And yes, numerous people have looked at me, and gasped that someone spanning 6’4 being 200.

  • Garfield is chronically “undertall”. He is not overweight.
