Thank you for the congratulations. It was a fun year to watch life from the perspective of the Grim Reaper.
The dark humour in this thread makes me laugh on a regular basis.
My chosen ones performed better than I could have expected this year. My list was a collection of sure things and a couple of younger victims I’ve been cultivating for the last 2 and 3 years - their times finally came. Most of all, it was dumb luck. I could have just as easily been wondering why only one or two people on my list died this year.
This is the 5th consecutive year I’ve played the game. I’m intentionally taking the year off from the 2012 DP, but I’ll be back for 2013. I’ll be popping into the thread from time to time to watch this year’s contest unfold.

I still can’t believe I got sucker-punched by Aretha Franklin. “Pancreatic cancer” indeed. Hmph! I took Gerry Rafferty off my list for her!
Gives me a lot of room for improvement for next year, though.

Can’t be too upset with you when I see that one new poster “stole” several of my current picks just before the deadline, not just one, for the 2012 Pool. Oh well, there are no rules against it, but it is annoying.
This is why you wait until the last minute to post your list, man.
Having scored a big fat zero for 2011 I was pretty confident that no one would want to steal from me.

I wonder when the Kick-Off will occur this year? I have a title to defend after all. What with Etta breathing on her own again, I don’t think any of my list are imminent this year, but one never knows.

One of 2011’s last deaths–SNL writer Joe Bodolai committed suicide on December 27, 2011.
That’s SNL’s second suicide. Charles Rocket went into a graveyard at midnight and cut his own throat!!:eek:

Yeah, about that, I apologize profusely. I definitely have poster regret on that one. So if he does kick the bucket … thanks, I owe you one. I just couldn’t resist. Blame a kid with a cold causing the night of celebration to end early with me surfing the dope waiting for the kickoff. Of course, karma says that I just guaranteed a miracle cure for Darrel and doomed Roger Ebert like I did for Sinan “Bull From Bosporus” Sam /Steve Jobs last year. If it makes you feel better I didn’t include him until I figured out a search string to find him. (Continuous improvement, don’t you know!)
I do notice if you do well in the game the chances of having unique picks drops substantially. I lost a unique pick in the waning hours of 2011 too with Tamara Grigsby . But I think I still have one unique pick on my list: Joe Lewis. But putting it together I thought I would have 4 or 5 unique picks.
I am kind of attracted by the idea of bonus points for the first person to post someone. I bet **Baker **would prefer not having the huge glut of posts on the last day or two as well!
I’ve had Akerfelds on my 2012 Maybes list for at least a couple of months. Pretty much anyone who’s even moderately high-profile with pancreatic cancer is probably not going to be a unique pick.
Sixth place, plus sharing the “Robbing the Cradle” and “Final Hours” awards. A big improvement after last year’s duck.
