The Celebrity Death Pool 2011

James Arness dies at 88; TV’s Marshal Dillon.

I wonder he had his boots on?

Well, at least he gets to see his brother again.

There couldn’t have been much left to die. He got shot in some part of his body almost every week for 20 years.

WIN

So much for sneaking him onto my 2012 list…

Luckily, as an athlete, he doesn’t need a lot of brain, so he may hold it together until January.

Of course, if that happens you’ll need to pick him just to keep up. If he’s still around on 12/31, he’ll be the Swayziest pick of the 2012 pool.

The actual count is 30 times during the run of the show. At least he kept Doc busy.

Wouldn’t that be an impossible mission?:stuck_out_tongue:

Not that I doubt you, but can you cite this? A few weeks ago I was interested in this exact question, and Googled like mad and couldn’t find an answer. I even started skimming the episodes streaming on Netflix, but once I found they carried less than 200 out of more than 600 episodes, I gave up.

Wiki Answers” says around 19 times.

He was also stabbed 3 times and poisoned once.

Uh, that doesn’t sound real well documented.

Yes, I know, but I don’t think he was shot “nearlly every week” or even episode.

I am a little young to watch Gunsmoke when it was in its run but I never heard a Gunsmoke mantra “Where will Matt Dillon get shot” this week.

That was a joke, son. And I am old enough to have watched a good chunk of Gunsmoke during it’s original run, and damn did he get shot up. After the series there were maybe 5 or 6 made for TV moves continuing the franchise, and I think he was wounded in every single one of them.

And it just pissed him off.

Marshall Dillon is saddling up his horse. Festus ambles over.

Festus: Matthew, are you goin’ after the Dalton gang to rescue Miss Kitty?
Dillon: Yep.
Festus: Matthew, there’s near by fifty of ‘em.
Dillon: Yep.
Festus: And they’ve got a Gattlin’ gun they stole!
Dillon: Yep.
Festus: Andrew, I like Miss Kitty a lot, but she ain’t nothin’ but an ol’ whore lady.
Dillon: Yep, Festus, but she’s the only one in town.

Ah, just read the NY Times obit for him, which says 30 wounds. Maybe that’s where Clothahump got the number.

And 6’ 7"?! I had no idea he was that tall.

The Giant Carrot in The Thing From Another World seemed taller than that!
Watch the skies!

Lawrence Eagleburger has died, aged 20 points(80).

He was way overweight, avoided exercise and smoked like crazy. Eighty is not bad for him.
