I’m sure it probably has. But if not it may be this year, if nobody else picked dies. Nelson Mandela had 28 choosers.
Somebody else has to die, we have a three-way tie for most unique picks.
No we don’t have a three way tie. Four players have two unique picks, but one, ataraxy22 has three unique picks.
I came in 6th place in the 2012 Death Pool, and put a lot of effort into my 2013 list, hoping to get another top-10 finish. I composed it in a .txt file, complete with formatting, commentary, snark, and a clean version. I had it ready to go a week early.
And then I forgot to post it.
Looking back, I now know it wouldn’t have been worth it. Only three people on my list died, and only one of those has any likelihood of being a unique pick. I don’t want to disclose my whole list in case I decide to reuse any picks, but here are the three who actually died:
Eiji Toyoda (age 100)
Bonnie Franklin (age 69)
Hugo Chavez (age 58)
Grand total of 73 points. Not a great showing, unless something dramatic happens in the next three weeks.
Yes. There’s been a Final Hours award every year since 2003; the only years it was not shared were 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Is there a list of the awards other than “Points Is Points”?
IMO, in the case of Final Hours award Tie, there should be a tiebreaker. Who ever posted their list first should get the tiebreaker.
An incentive to post early.
But I still aint going to post mine until Dec 30 (I am usually out of town on NY Eve).
Why is there all this concern about a tie all of a sudden? If Lindsay Lohan kicks it at 11 p.m. on 12-31 won’t everyone be pleased with the massive amount of points? Except everyone who’s putting her on their lists for next year, that is.
Prayers requested for Billy Graham.
Please, Lord, keep him around for another three weeks. I don’t want to have to bump up one of my alternates right after I posted my list for next year.
See, this is why I’m not posting my list early. Some of my 2013 picks are starting to bump off just as the year is ending and I don’t want to have to post a huge number of alternates just in case.
Seven players already have Billy Graham on their 2014 list. I’ll have to check and see if they have alternates on standby.
This is another demonstration of the power of the Death Pool; people on your new standby list are doomed to die before the clock stikes 12:00 on New Year’s Eve.
And to that end. may I make the following suggestions for everyone’s 2014 alternates:
Dennis Frederiksen
Buddy Cage
Bruce Conte
Martin Crowe
Kurtis Haiu
Ryan Buell
This is why One Should Not Rush Into Things.
One must sit in the dark, in the early hours of the morning, and plot, and plan, and wait…
And send chocolate to Baker.
What pick has died this year that has been the youngest/most points so far?
I had a29 year old TV weatherman.
Call me cynical but it appears Franklin Graham didn’t ask people to pray for his father until the worst was over and it looked like he would recover. (“Since that night a few short weeks ago, he has had another bout with a respiratory infection and was hospitalized briefly before returning home to recuperate. He is extremely weak but his vitals are good.”) My cynical suspicion is Franklin didn’t want to tell people to pray and then have his father die - that might have shaken people’s faith.
This just in: Beyonce has slain half the pop music world
Sorry, just had to.
Huh?
For those out of step with music news, singer Beyonce released her 5th album last night on iTunes without any advance promotion, blowing everyone’s minds and upending the Billboard album chart for this week. I couldn’t resist a death joke.
And here I was figuring that Billy Graham must’ve kicked the bucket.
