Does anyone else think that these are the best Tom and Jerry cartoons ever made? I mean, the first Hanna-Barbera batch (with the elaborate style) were brilliant in their own right, but Jones brought his own very distinct graphic style into the Tom and Jerry universe, making the gags more visual and the humor more absurd and extreme. After that, Tom and Jerry went downhill fast, but the Chuck Jones cartoons will always stand out for me. Anyone agree/disagree?
I agree, the early ones avoided repetitive gags and visuals. There was a lot more character depth, plot and content. Later episodes were terribly shallow slapstick and not much else. Jones was an animating genius.
