The City of the Future

OK, here’s the deal. I won a ton of lottery money. Almost unlimited funds. I have decided I am going to help single moms. (Or maybe deadbeat dads, the principle is the same.)

So I am going to build 100 single-family cabins in a lovely wooded area. I am going to provide free homes, free utilities, free room service, lots of room inside and out to raise really cool, healthy kids.

Guess what? Just because I have money does not mean I can tell people how (or even where) to live. Some people probably want to live in rustic, rural cabins. Others want to live in city apartments. Still more prefer suburbs.

There is a term we use for cities planned with an eye toward perfection, cleanliness and order. Company towns. They rarely work out.
