Emmitt Smith was 5’9"
I don’t understand why height is an issue either. If anything, it seems like you’d want your tailbacks as short as possible. Weight is certainly an issue, but at 215 he’s big enough.
ETA: It’s the Browns and Chiefs, dude.
Tiki was indeed given the “small scatback that can’t carry the load” tag for years. He didn’t become the starter until his fifth or sixth season. We all saw what happened once Tiki was given the full load, so keep hope alive for Harrison.
I have to give you your props for totally calling Harrison. You’re certainly vindicated in my eyes, at least. It was funny watching PTI on Monday, with both Mike and Tony talking about “who the hell is this guy?” and “never heard of him.” I was like, what? How could you not have heard of him? He’s been an up&comer for years. heh. That’s what I like to call the “SenorBeef effect.”
Haha, thanks. Yeah, I guess I have been pimping him throughout the years. You can see my frustration when we’ve had the kid sitting on the bench for almost the entire last 4 years when I knew he could do this all along - and we’ll probably lose him soon due to him bailing due to mistreatment.
I’m watching Jerome Harrison gash the Raiders for 7 yards at a time, and I’m becoming increasingly agitated by the fact that he sat the bench for so long. He is like Tiki. He stays low, takes what he can get, and gets down. Tiki always had a knack for avoiding the crushing hits.
Okay, so it’s the Chiefs and Raiders. Still…
Ah, thanks to Beef’s pimpage, I started Jerome in my fantasy playoff game because Michael Turner is still hurt. Excellent!

So now you can appreciate the Lions. To go 0-16 takes a special kind of suck that a normal team can not achieve. Now we are 4 from the longest road losing streak of all time. The record of course was set by the Lions 2002-3. Detroit fans have not seen a winning game on TV since 2007. The 2 victories they had at home were blacked out.
Bah, only 148 yards for Jerome Harrison today. Dude’s a stiff.
I am getting mildly alarmed that with three wins in a row (with a slim hope for four) that Mangini might yet save his job. If Mike Holmgren thinks he’s the man for the job and wants to keep him I’ll accept that. But Randy Lerner needs to give Holgrem a completely free hand to get the coach he wants.
[Mel Brooks] It’s good to be the Czar. [/Mel Brooks]
I’m not terribly opposed to the idea of him keeping his job if we win next week. A 4 game win streak against two bad teams (who are probably still better than us) and 2 good teams fighting for their playoff lives would be pretty significant.
It’s not like the team would be competitive with a different coach next year anyway. There are still serious holes, particularly on offense.
If he’s a bad coach (and particularly if he’s scaring off potential free agents and making our current players want to pack it in and then get the fuck out of here) then the harm would be in having even more lost years before something good happened.
I’d like to see Mangini stick for another year. I just don’t know if I can deal with scrapping whatever progress we’ve made this year and starting all over yet again. I don’t think any coach in the history of the NFL could have taken over the Browns at the beginning of this year and done much with the team. If you keep kicking coaches to the curb after not giving them a chance to prove themselves, you’ll have more and more trouble getting anyone to want to coach.
Andy Reid is really going to help you guys, I think.
Clearly, the team is making progress. I don’t like Mangini much, and I don’t think much of him, but he’s probably better than whoever you’d get to replace him.
Bill Cowher is looking to coach again. If he’s interested, should they dump Mangini to hire him?
Scuttlebutt is that the Buccaneers have sent out feelers his way. I still think he’ll stand pat until he finds out if the Carolina job will be available.
I’d certainly dump Mangini for Cowher, but I don’t think the Browns are going to be hiring anyone that expensive given what they’re paying Holmgren. I think it’ll be one of Holmgren’s former assistants that gets the job (though not Zorn, obviously).
That’s not so bad considering who some of his former flunkies are.
Eh, paying lots for coaches is the only way Lerner can make himself useful and flex his billions. I actually have not had any strong feelings on Mangini this season - it’s such a clusterfuck that it’s hard to nail down specific strengths and problems in isolation. He definitely drives people too hard - veteran players say he works them harder than anyone they’ve ever played for at any level, to their detriment. But some of the game planning has been fairly good. At least on defense - the OC he hired seems incompetant - but then again, he has nothing to work with except a good 3/5ths of an O-line and a talented running back who only got significant carries in 4 games… which may be his fault.
At a million a year they’ll learn to suck it up.
Yeah, but they could go elsewhere and still make their millions and not be worked to death. And it’s not just player attitude - they’re claiming he wears them down to the point where they’re beat up on gameday and it negatively affects their play.
