Up until now I figured Hillary was a skilled enough debater that she’d be able to keep him on the defensive, tangle him up in his web of lies, and ultimately take him down. But I can see it happening the other way as well - Trump spewing a steady stream of lies that keeps Hillary on the defensive.
Then of course there is the “W” factor - if your expectations of his debate performance are low enough, and he doesn’t completely tank, then people will call it a “win”.
On the other hand, Trump may not even bother showing up.
So what do you think? How do you see the debates playing out?
There is definitely the concern that Trump will try a Gish Gallop. There is no reason he can’t just make shit up throughout the entire debate, recognizing that Hillary won’t be able to shoot them all down in real time, and that the next day the media might pick out a few of the lies to Truth check but won’t have time to cover them all, and in the interest of “balance” will find a couple of times that Hillary stretched things as well. So there is no downside.
He has one of the lowest % true ratings of anyone on Politifact, but it has never affected him, with the popular accepted narrative being that Hillary is the one who has problems with trustworthiness.
Hillary held her own against an entire hostile panel of various hearings.
Handling Trump should be a cake walk.
Unfortunately, all Trump has to do is call her a fat pig, and his supporters will be all like: “Oh snap! Did you hear That? Trump is clearly the winner!”
I’m not too confident for Clinton. Trump has the advantage in that he and his supporters don’t really care about “facts” and “reality.” It’s that whole “playing chess with a pigeon” thing.
He won’t do it. The moderator will be biased, the media will be biased. They will to pick a college location, and it won’t be Liberty U. So, the location will be biased and therefore, the audience.
Three Presidential debates have been scheduled. Here are the dates, locations & ground rules. Each debate has a moderator & a specific “structure”–one will partly be a “Town Hall.”
I can’t see The Donald making it through all three without blowing his cool. His true fans, of course, would not mind. But we’ve got to consider the “undecided” voters–who might be convinced it’s worth voting against the blowhard.
Well, there you go, under tickets. Very limited, small audience. Tickets for the college’s faculty and students, lottery based. Is there a college in America where the students and faculty are evenly split, Trump v Hillary?
I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say that the speaking of both participant’s will consist of ad hominem attacks and platitudes with very little actual policy discussed.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he were to decline to participate at the last minute.
If Trump had any sense of dignity or decorum, I would expect Clinton to make him look like the ADD know-nothing blowhard that he is. Since he lacks dignity and decorum, I’m afraid that any debate that takes place will be the rudest and crudest spectacle we have witnessed in our national politics, with Clinton trying to talk substance, and Trump bellowing nonsense.
And Nate Silver says he has a 38% chance of being elected. Jesus wept.
No way to tell. I think we can see how Trump will speak. We don’t know about Hillary. She is not good at speaking extemporaneously, she should stick to her scripted responses and appear to be the more serious candidate. She should avoid responding to Trump at all, certainly she shouldn’t do that dumb laugh to fend off attacks from Trump, she shouldn’t try an emotional appeal to people, she shouldn’t lecture anyone, she should just ignore Trump and explain what she will do as president and why.
These so called debates are an attempt to swing undecided voters. Avoiding mistakes is probably more important than anything else here, there aren’t many totally undecided voters, this year it’s more like voters that haven’t been convinced which of two totally opposite directions to go in, or to vote at all for a major candidate.
