The coup de grâce of "OH Sh*T" moments for any Photo\videographer.

I can feel the anxiety coming off this videographer when he see thisfollowing the nice little Caribou he’s filming.

I can only hope I would have done the same thing…but if she decided to eat me? There would have been little I could have done - at that range at least.

Obviously a dangerous situation, but the bear never really acted aggressively. She and her cub just kinda wandered in close to check out the biped. He did the right thing and it turned out fine. They went about their business.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ that he didn’t have reason to crap his pants. I’m just saying that it’s not the ultimate oh shit moment for a nature photographer/videographer.

That would be something more like this.

I don’t understand why he didn’t bug out when he saw the bears - you don’t mess with bears, man.

Well, we learned something about bears and woods. It ain’t exclusive.

:stuck_out_tongue: That was funny.

Some years ago, I watched a program about bear attacks that included these photos. They were the last pictures taken by a hiker killed by a grizzly.

The most exciting part was when she walked right by, I agree. I can’t tell how close she was 20 meters maybe? But she *could *have [and in many situations with a cub do charge] but she could have covered that distance in 2 seconds…and simply decided not to. That is the crazy part.

In the Smokey Mountains a few years ago we were driving through the park when the car in front of us suddenly stopped to . Like most tourists, he jumped out of his car to start taking pics of a black bear on the left side of the road. What he didn’t see was the bear cub on the right side of the road.

So what we had was…

big black bear ------|road----stupid tourist----road|------little black bear

Momma bear charged toward stupid camera-wielding tourist and I thought I was going to see a human die right in front of my eyes. Fortunately, baby bear had passed by stupid tourist and pissed off momma bear stopped before reaching tourist. <whew> I hope he brought another pair of shorts.

My old supervisor was visiting the Smokey Mountains on his Honda Goldwing. He saw a crowd and pulled over to see a sow and her cub ambling on by. Standing next him was a Park Ranger. Somebody with a 35 mm camera showed up and starting walking towards the passing bears. The ranger spoke up and said, “Sir, don’t go near the bears”. He replied, “Don’t worry, it’s safe: it’s only the momma and her cub.” :smack:

I was expecting something more like a tripod leg coming unlocked and watching $14,000 smash into the sidewalk.

That would hurt for an awfully long time. At least the hiker wedgehed referred to was put out of their misery.

Ah, that explains why people do such stupid things; it’s because they’re stupid.

At one point, you can almost see the caribou thinking “I don’t have to outrun the bear; I only have to outrun this guy with the camera…”
