How do the films explain away a country full of gun lovers whose wet dreams it would be to hunt chimps with impunity?
well, since the second movie hasn’t been released yet -
Given what we know so far, the source of the intelligent apes is San Francisco (not know as a gun filled kind of place) and then there is plague that kills or makes stupid a bunch of people.
Also I would venture a guess that killing a charging Gorilla is not as easy you would think.
Especialy when the gorilla can figure out how to use guns too.
A virus takes out most of humanity. It’s seen at the end of the first movie. Very good movie, btw. I’m really looking forward to “Dawn.”
There’s a legitimate real-world question about the story here, but in most Cafe Society threads we discourage gratuitous political commentary. It can lead to hijacks and takes attention away from the main topic. As this thread continues, keep that stuff to a minimum or better yet, cut it out entirely, Son of a Rich.
I’m looking forward to the explanation why they favor horses over cars. I guess it has something to do with pedals being hard to reach, but I hope it’s not quite so silly. I want to actually be scared by this movie.
Things went downhill since Charlton Heston died.

Damn them! Damn them all to hell!
Good point. But, we’ll see.
I was a little disappointed with the first one. In the light of the recent ape attacks, like where the chimp ripped the woman’s face off () I was really excited about the reboot. . . can you really imagine how terrifying it could be to have a smart Gorilla seriously pissed off and after your ass!? So, when the movies went all soft on the extreme violence apes, especially chimps, are capable of. . . I was disappointed.
Because the chimps got a hold of a large cache of fully automatic M16’s, while the rest of the West Coast was limited to semi-auto’s with 10 round clips. If only the gun laws weren’t so restrictive and Americans weren’t so law-abiding, the chimps would never have gained a foothold and taken over. Thanks, Obama.
The lone redeeming part of the first Planet of the Apes remake.
My problem with the first one is it really had no motivation. All and all Caesar was not so badly treated except for one dopey handler but staged a revolution mostly just because he could. In the old films, Apes were a slave underclass and it made sense they would revolt. In this one it was…um let’s get out of these cages okay?
