I’d have thought that an old Navy hand such as yourself would have appreciated the nautical theme! My brothers, sister, and I loved that movie! As was the case with so many other Disney films of that era, the family piled into the car and headed for the drive-in to see The Boatniks.
Come on, didn’t you enjoy the theme song, with the steam whistle’s “woo-woo” punctuating the lyrics? Or Wally Cox as one of the jewel thieves ("If you don’t like the way I wheeze and hiccup … ")? And if you ever got a copy of the Wonderful World of Disney magazine from your friendly neighborhood Gulf dealer, you’d perhaps recall the preview of this cinematic diversion, in which the writer declared that Stefanie Powers would “make any boat look good!” Not the worst Disney flick ever, not by a long shot!
I started to do this one, but I realized that I’m too old and there are just too darn many Disney movies. I’ll wait for the next feud.
