The Daily Feud: Rock, Roll, and the Road by SSG Schwartz [Game Over]

I am hoping my answer of “Van Halen” and “Van Halen brown M/M” will be matched, because it is clearly what I meant. Honest. It is.

Actually it really is, I didn’t think the question was looking for specific details, but just the party of the contract. Oh well, if it is, it is, if not, OK too. At least I don’t be any formatting of any kind and it won’t be DQed.

notfrommensa, Yes, yes… Calm down!

Hmm… good question. The question reads “brand.” That means manufacturer, to me. As in Gibson, Fender, Washburn…

Gibson makes lots of guitars, including the Les Paul.

If you say “Gibson” or “Gibson Les Paul”, that counts together, because I almost always take the first part of a “double” answer. If you say only “Les Paul” - that is specific and must be counted alone.

Same with Fender, Fender Stratocaster, and plain Stratocaster.

(The reason I pick the first part of a “double” answer is because it usually matches more people.)
ETA: You’re #49, BTW.

  1. Turn the Page

  2. Stay

  3. Spinal Tap

  4. Walk the Line

  5. Frank Sinatra

  6. Jennifer Lopez’s

  7. 5

  8. Fender

  9. Jim Morrison

  10. Ringo Starr

  11. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band; would I have done better with the slightly (but only slightly) superior The Road, by Jackson Browne?

  12. Jackson Browne again - not about the road originally, but it became so after the revised lyrics

  13. Elvis didn’t find fame, he found infamy

  14. The lone missing Beatle :frowning:

Brand <> manufacturer.

A non guitar example:

Procter & Gamble is a manufacturer of consumer goods. Their brands include Ivory Soap, Tide, Dawn, Pampers, Pringles. Pringles comes in many varieties and sizes.

Honda Motors is a manufacturer of automobiles, motorcyles, and other mechanical objects. In their automobile division, their brands include the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Legend, Integra, etc. Those each come in a number of configurations. Okay, usually with a carmaker you think Make/Model. But the model is for Honda, the “brand”.

Coca-Cola is a company, and a Coke is a brand. So is Sprite, Diet Coke, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew, etc.

Your definition actually would give me the highest score*, but your assertion is not correct.
*Didn’t mean I’d get the highest score in this game; I’m pretty sure I won’t. I meant it would give me a higher score than my definition of brand.

Your logic is impeccable, as usual. The problem then would be:

Do I group the Les Pauls with the Gibson Les Pauls, and let the Gibsons stand alone? Or just throw all the guitars (brands) made by Gibson together?

(I don’t even know how many answers we’re talking about here.)

I tell you what, the decision making behind the grouping is one of the hardest parts of scoring these Feuds!

I guess I’ll figure it out on the fly, after adding all the entries to the scoresheet. Fiddle Peghead is #50.

To be fair, I can think of some brands that are just the company, but it’s the exception. United Airlines would be a company and pretty much a brand. But most companies split into multiple brands.

For guitars, your guess is as good as mine. But as usual, I’m sure you’ll get lots of “help” along the way.

Gibson and Fender are brands. Les Paul and Stratocaster are models.

(Those two are the only specific models mentioned in this feud; no one went with SG, Telecaster, etc.)

I would group the Les Pauls with the Gibsons, and the Strats with the Fenders.

That will be the easiest for me, and give everyone the most points. Commencing scoring.

What happened to the Moody Blues? Three of us chose them.

Hey, you didn’t count my answer for #10–the Sex Pistols.

Already mentioned above

I think the scoring hiccuped on "The " . I noticed no bands starting with that article were counted.

And the winner is ~drumroll~ our resident rock star! Way to go Swampus! ::flings confetti:: swampbear got 9/10 top answers. Great job! Perfect was 506.00.

Thanks everyone! Thanks, SSG Schwartz! Sorry you didn’t get to play your own feud. :frowning:

Behind the scenes:

The spreadsheet gives me an unsorted list of answers and their number of matches.

I C&P that list into another area, separate each numbered section, move all the #10s to the bottom of the list, and sort each numbered section into “most matches on top.” Then I add the question to the top of each section.

I screw it up. Often.

What’s the record for most unmatched answers on a Feud question? Also I want to know if people really think that KISS should be in a HoF based on musical merit or just because of their impact on the business? Because I loved them as a tween/young teen and listening to their old stuff now they just SUCK.

Funny that so many songs were used as answers for both of the first two questions - bad and good.
