The Daily Feud: Rock, Roll, and the Road by SSG Schwartz [Game Over]

Well, to be fair, the question wasn’t “Who wasn’t inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Who Should Have Been?” but just “Name a group/artist that hasn’t been inducted.”

Beaten by Swampy yet again. :frowning:

Hey, thanks Dolores for all that you do, but you missed my answer for a performer who hasn’t been inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame, the great, the incomparable, the awesome Ringo Starr. Where is the love for this amazing man?

Thanks, Dolores and SSG Schwartz. That was fun!

What are you talking about? Your Ringo Starr answer is listed but it shouldn’t be since it is technically incorrect. Starr was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of the Beatles. The other three were all inducted a second time for their successful solo careers.
Unfortunately, Ringo’s solo career has been less than stellar (pun intended!) but he has been on the ballot for induction for the last three years.

FTR The Clash (2003) and the Sex Pistols (2006) are already in!

I am in a running feud with a HS student of mine about KISS.

I and the rest of the class (some definite wannabe musicians in attendance) maintain that KISS is the Coke of rock bands. He is liable to statements like, “KISS is the greatest band of all time.”

He is also liable to this statement about a few other bands.
KISS SUCKS. THEY SUCK AS MUSICIANS AND AS PERFORMERS. THE KISS ARMY IS DEAD!

The eight-year-old I babysat c. 1978 was a huge KISS fan. Nuff said.

10th. Rarefied air. Yet not as satisfying because Rock and Roll has not penetrated Iceland yet. Perhaps in a few years. They are still producing lava lamps.

I understand that, just wondering how so many people made that same pick. There are literally thousands and thousands of musicians that have never (and will never) be selected for that. Why did so many people pick KISS?

Not saying it’s not a valid answer, it certainly is. Just curious. Maybe there’s some percent of the population that is offended that KISS have never been selected?

Richard Starkey should have been inducted based on Photograph alone.

Some say they enjoy being beaten by me.

You little devil, you!

And “It Don’t Come Easy” and “You’re Sixteen” are just the icing on the cake.

What, no love for “Octopus’s Garden”?

Well, I answered KISS for several reasons, and none of them because I think they should be inducted.

  1. They’re memorable

  2. Gene Simmons refuses to just shut the fuck up, ever, and thus shows up on reality TV and the like all the damn time, making him also memorable

  3. They were most active during the timeframe that a lot of the other bands I thought of for this feud were active

Yabbut that was a Beatles song.

Look, FTR I agree he should be inducted by himself, but you're joking right?

“Photograph” was co-written and recorded with George Harrison as was “It Don’t Come Easy”.
“You’re Sixteen” is a cover version written by the Sherman brothers.
Even if he had written these songs alone and they were at #1 for months, commercial success is not the focus of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

If you want to argue that Ringo should be inducted on how he was innovative in drum technique, changed the drummer’s role in a band, or influenced millions to pick up some drumsticks, then I agree he is deserving.
But come on, let’s be honest, his music since the Beatles has been catchy but not really awe inspiring or influential on Rock music. Especially compared to the other three.

True. I was being somewhat facetious.

I know, it was Peghead, I was trying to figure out.
