I was just thinking - who better than Dean Winchester to start referring to someone as “long tall and ugly”?
The idea just keeps getting better and better.
Billy Drago= Roland.
With the right cast and director and crew and budget it could be awesome. But it could just as easily be crap. I have oft been vastly disappointed by film interpretations of King’s material. They would have to film this on a scale like that of the LoTR movies to do it justice, I think.
Did you really hate the ending? I couldn’t think of any other way it could possibly have ended - I expected to be hugely disappointed no matter what happened, but what did happen seemed like the only thing that could have done. It was strangely satisfying.
You and I are in the minority around here. I felt the same as you - the ending seemed the right one to me.
Pleased ta meetcha.
I don’t think we’re *that *small a minority.
Yeah, I think the opposition to the ending is just more vocal about it. Whining and gnashing of teeth is always going to be louder than content sighs of relief.
Oh, hai then. I didn’t realize that there were people on the board who actually don’t mind the ending
BUMP
[Or…not. It’s hit a major obstacle now and may not happen.
Dark Tower Collapses! NBC Pulls the Plug!](DARK TOWER Collapses!! NBC Universal Pulls Plug On Ron Howard's Movies And TV Series!!)
Get someone with the balls to truly represent what this epic and magical tale is about… that’s my dearest wish! Well… that and getting Viggo to play Roland
This just gives the producers time to round up my dream cast, most of which are currently unavailable due to other television obligations. Hopefully Viggo will sign on to a 6 movie series in the meantime as well, so we aren’t subjected to Aragorn-in-Midworld.
I BUMP this over a year later because, again, it appears to have died. Yes, it was resurrected in the past year and has died yet again.
Perhaps for the best. I was never sold on the movie/tv series format–it needs to be a proper seven or eight-season HBO series.
Javier Bardem? Russel Crowe? The hell?! Have these people even read the series? Both are talented actors, to be sure, but neither is Roland. I think **rolandgunslinger **(heh) had it right back up top: Billy Drago has the right look. As does Scott Glenn, but he may be getting just slightly too old. (And I think he’s got brown eyes.)
Your link says that things are still in “serious talks” (MRC is taking over negotiations from Warner), so I’m not sure why all the doom and gloom.
I am honestly relieved and hope the project does not go forward. The chances of any Dark Tower project being any good at all are slim, but the hybrid format would virtually guarantee failure.
Generally speaking if there’s a book series I like in the fantasy vein, I normally hope no one will ever try to make a (most likely horrible) adaptation for the screen. See, e.g., A Wizard of Earthsea. An embarassment to everyone involved.
