…only about 1/2 an hour until the world-wide simulcast of the 50th anniversary episode, so thought I’d post a thread for anyone wanting to post while watching. This is an open spoiler thread of what has been shown on TV: so no speculation or gossip please! And if you haven’t seen the episode, then stop reading the thread now if you don’t want to get spoiled.
I’m quite unreasonable excited about this, three minutes to go
What the hell was that?
Bloody hell, just bloody hell.
That was amazing, that’s what. I think.
So, um, I guess “The End of Time” didn’t happen, right?
I have no idea.
I thought it was … pretty good.
Hmm. I’m a little annoyed at how reticent Moffat is at actually resolving anything.
Overall opinions? I am watching it tonight after the kids go to bed.
I thought that was amazing! Just astounding!
I really wish Christopher Ecclestone had been in it, it felt like he was missing. I suspect they tried really hard to persuade him.
That last scene with them all standing together - I actually got a lump in my throat!
And funny! Some great lines!
“What’s our cover story for this?”
“Derren Brown.”
“Again?”
“We sent him flowers.”
I’m guessing controversial. Very, very controversial.
He kind of (sort of) was in it twice.
My holy shit moment was when I heard Tom Baker’s voice.
Having been old enough to watch the first ever episode live and fascinated enough to watch every episode since, I thought this was magnificent.
The Doctor’s horrific yet apparently necessary role in the Time War has been hinted at for decades. Now it’s been both explained … and changed!
There were so many clever references built in (plus the excellent use of two names for the painting.)
And during the episode I first revised my favourite Doctor from Baker to Tennant - but by the end of the episode Baker had taken the title back.
Also John Hurt is a very good actor.
Wow.
Yeah, the episode was definitely 10 pounds of fanservice in a five pound bag.
That’s a good way of putting it. I was happy with that though.
So, the Time War was rewritten by all the Doctors, including Peter Capaldi’s upcoming one, so that Gallifrey is still available in a frozen state somewhere. Seems like Capaldi’s Doctor has a mission then.
Well there was the previous episode where the timelords came out of stasis to attack … but he knew then they were in stasis not all killed …
I’m resolved to the fact that this show suffers from thinking about it too much. It’s a theme park ride and best enjoyed that way. And as that, dang it was fun.
But it WAS in a frozen state - and then the Master unlocked it, and then Timothy Dalton came over and chewed all the scenery, and then the Doctor sent it back, which was a good thing, because it had been utterly corrupted by the war, and the Council was planning on ascending to godhood and destroying the universe, and am I the only one who remembers that episode?
Edit: so it* wasn’t *a dream. Good, because that was one of my favorite eps.
…the War Doctor was planning on burning Gallifrey. Instead the decision was made to time-lock Gallifrey. I would say that all they did was preserve the timeline. Ten and Eleven knew this: but the War Doctor didn’t, and due to his regeneration may well have forgotten.
Or timey wimey, as some would say. I’m sure someone on the internet will put everything in order!
And it was good to have a glimpse of the 12th (or 13th!) Doctor as well!
I think they were from a stasis set up before the Time War. Though I haven’t watched it since it first broadcast.
Only you and the 11th Doctor. And Clara, I suppose, and the Bad Wolf.
OK, the Doctors combined resolved the Time War in a different way than before, bit less genocidey.
