I’d like to add that Garrison Keillor once did a very moving account of the accident. Apparently he went down from Anoka just to be at the site of the crash.
Give 'em a break. These good ole boys were drinkin whiskey and rye.
Honestly, give it a few more years, and even the memory will have died. I am a huge fan of music, from depression era blues to modern indie, and I respect and admire all three of those cats. Unfortunatly, the rest can not be said for my generation. It’s going to be another trivial, pop cultural reference once the next wave of death sweeps through.
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure how that makes me feel.
Sorry; this started out as an MPSIMS thread, which is pretty much fair game. Guess it got moved. On the other hand, it was 47 years ago and I’ve been over it for about 46 of those. Others I don’t still grieve for: Janis, Jimi, Elvis, Otis, JFK, MLK, RFK and a long list of others. They lived, they contributed, they’re dead and remembered. It doesn’t mean we have to enshrine them.
DesertWife, who was eight years older than I, lived in Des Moines and was 16 at the time. She loved Buddy Holly and wanted to go to the concert, but her folks didn’t want a 16-year old driving that far in the dark in February.
She wasn’t sure she was happy or sad she missed that last performance.
