PBS did a whole show on him on ‘American Masters’. He did say he went through a time where he hated the song but had to keep singing it because it paid the bills.
I’ve been there, and to the Surf Ballroom. The Surf has lots of historic memorabilia. María Elena Holly, Buddy’s wife, autographed the telephone booth that Buddy called her shortly before getting on that plane. The last time they ever spoke.
They are worth visiting.
