The winter solstice was at 22:23 UTC. The run in to summer has begun :). I think I can feel it getting warmer already (though there is just a chance I may be imagining it). Happy thoughts people.
Eff summer. Bring on the snow!
I’m with ya, ticker.
Quite a number of years ago now, my husband died very unexpectedly in mid-October. In addition to being numb with grief, it seemed like everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Vehicle malfunctions, well pump problems, feeding livestock in the dark, all sorts. Worst days of my life.
The winter solstice arrived and somehow, I knew I would be ok with the days getting longer. I built a roaring fire, lit a houseful of candles and cried like a toddler. I was so grateful!
I still feel that way every single winter solstice. I still build a roaring fire and light a houseful of candles to celebrate.
So happiest of winter solstices to you!! I know how you feel!
Amen to that! Happy Solstice, fellow Dopers! Warmer days ahead!
On every world, wherever people are, in the deepest part of the winter, at the exact mid-point, everybody stops and turns and hugs. As if to say, “Well done. Well done, everyone! We’re halfway out of the dark.” - - Kazran Sardick
We get a rather unbelievable amount of snow each season. I can deal with that. Knowing it’s going to slowly get lighter now helps a lot. I’m at only 39 degrees north and will never move further north.
