The Debt Crisis Thread

Not if it works. This whole thing could just be one big who-blinks-first game, with all the stuff you’re pointing at as reasons why the Republicans in question are figuring will the scare the other side into desperate concessions.

Obama is conceding his brains out. The baggers want 100 percent their way. It is not an adult conversation.
Obama has to take it all the way.
He may have to go 14th on them.

Fuck, you Americans couldn’t govern your way out of wet paper bag.

We do know how to use apostrophes though. So we got that goin’ for us.

Ta!

You keep saying that, but you’re leaving aside the possibility that (a) they will get things 100 percent their way, or (b) they’ll get closer to 100% with that tactic than with others. In either case, what could be more adult than effectiveness?

And they may have to impeach him. We could be here all day spinning hypotheticals; let’s see which side blinks first, eh?

Slick Willie proved impeachment doesn’t sting as much as it used to. Do your worst, we still control the Senate. Then we will see how the public judges such partisan time wasting that creates no jobs. I hope they do hold impeachment hearings, I hope they drag on all year. I hope the GOP keeps that gun to their own head, threatening to shoot the white guy. We are winning the battle for public opinion.

Which is nice.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/07/25/republican-rep-warns-of-obama-impeachment-if-gop-forces-debt-default/ Now a Repub threatens an Obama impeachment if the government defaults. The baggers are becoming a bigger disaster and a more horrible joke every day.

Did you feel that way right before the 2010 elections?

There you go again, waving your hands as fast as you can, in a vain attempt to misdirect the headlight bearing down on you. Fine, ignore the locomotive comin’ down the track. Just stand there on the tracks and curse the whistle.

Bolding is mine. Yeah, the baggers want it all. What will they ask for next? Obama’s resignation? That seems like the rabid Teabagger’s wet dream.

Ten bucks says at least one prominent TBR will do exactly that. I’d guess Bachmann, but I’ll only put by ten bucks on any prominent one.

I’m a little libertarian-leaning, but I don’t think the Obama administration should take up the appeasement policy when dealing with the TBRs.

Why don’t they just write down a list of their demands?

“We want Obama out of office.
We want the Ten Commandments put up in schools, hospitals, and business places all over the country.
We want to get rid of all Social programs
We also want kids to be taught Intelligent Design. Do this or you’ll be sorry”

Missed edit window. I think they’d also want MANDATORY reeducation camps for gays and lesbians.

Which Democratic Senators from KS were those exactly?

Sam Brownback was Senator #1 from November 7, 1996 – January 3, 2011.
Pat Roberts has served as Senator #2 from January 3, 1997 - present.

Both of them are die-hard uber-conservative Republicans.

Explain yourself.

Statement not intended to be factual.

Well, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about is the most likely explanation. He’s thinking about the Cornhusker Kickback, I assume.

In any case, only because the congressional Republicans were hysterical children and had preemptive filibusters on everything was 60 votes even needed.

The current crop of Republicans are making a mockery of the party. There was a time when Republicans were a reasonable party (if wrong on many issues). Now they simply shriek in outrage when their own policy ideas are suggested by a Democrat.

Note the earlier thread about impeachment. Yes they want it all. Then they will dream up more that they have to have. Then after that more.
Stop them right now.

Well, somebody listened to President Obama’s speech:

Congressional sites crash after President’s speech

Something tells me this wasn’t a barrage of “Nice stalling! Keep up the good work!” messages.
