The Debt Crisis Thread

Mmmmmm, incendiary lemons…

The capacity to make, and appreciate, Portal references is a clear sign of a vast and shimmering intellect. Let us congratulate each other, we are fighting ignorance, and we are still alive.

It seems Obama just decided a default would be so badly damaging that he could not allow it to happen. Many of the baggers would gleefully vote for a default. They are not too bright.
Boehner could not control his party. He could not deliver a reasonable package.
Allowing the full faith and credit of the US to crash and burn, would have been unthinkable. But the Repubs would have done it. The baggers would have relished it.
So it again falls on the Dems to be adults and save the default, even if it does not address the other problems.

And promptly informs all his dealers that he’s decided not to pay them for the crack they fronted him. What a promising start to a long life of sobriety!

Short life. He no pay, he no live.

RE: the *Daily Kos *quote

I think that’s about right, and we will come to see that after we all calm down a bit. Right now, what is most prominent in the public mind is: Pubbies are in thrall to the radical TP, they hate SS and Medicare, and want to give all our money to the rich. And they will have to either run on that, or run away from it.

Now, Universe, I know I haven’t been a very good pantheist, but if you could just give me this one sign…

Dunno how they’re going to spin that positive but gee, I can’t wait to find out.

Make stuff up.

You understand, I’m sure, that the concept of a unified budget, which we’ve had since '69, makes your statement somewhat meaningless. Or did Al get his lockbox passed when I wasn’t looking?

The debt you are referring to is what the left hand of the Federal Government owes the right hand; what JT suggested is that, after the washout, the numbers would balance, ‘unifiedly’

so I guess that is wrong.

Forget it, its over, Romney has come out against it.

It could fail to be voted in. Then what?

Hence my reply to you in #739: paint yourself as the guy who would’ve held out for more and you’ve got a base-friendly pitch ready to go.

14th Amendment, Bay-bee!!!

That would result in impeachment. I favor the trillion dollar coins.

Obama says that won’t work. I voted for him because he is smarter than me. Plus, he has a smattering of knowledge, Constitution wise. Extra plus, what hope could he have the the Supremes would back him up?

And lastly, in nanoseconds, how long before Louis Goober (Duh, TX) files impeachment papers?

They’ll probably vote in a clean (nothing attached to it) temporary debt limit increase at the 11th hour (and 59 minutes and 59 seconds) and kick the can down the road a few weeks.

Gee, I wish I weren’t a stress eater. :frowning: Why can’t I be one of those people who lose their appetite during times such as these.

Are there enough votes in the House to pass this deal?

For now, 'luci, just for now…
