The Democratic party is changing on the issue of mistreatment of women; the Republican party is not

Well…

…I might have said, “Generally, no.” Polygraph results are generally admissible in some circumstances, such as when both parties stipulate to admissibility before the test is administered (see US v. Piccinonna).

Clinton was also 20 years ago. The premise of this thread is that Democrats are changing and Republicans are not. Do we still believe that Clinton would have gotten the nomination with Paula Jones in his background? - she was telling that tale back during his primary season. I don’t know that he would get it now, in 2018, given the #METOO movement - maybe he would, but I THINK we’ve gotten better - and I think MOST of the left getting better is from the past year. We will see if it sticks. I think we’ve taken two steps forward, and the Democrats will take a step back - maybe even a step and a half, in the backlash, but it will be forward from where we were in early 2017.

I’m not seeing the right have the same sort of change - even in a temporary fashion. For the right, we seem to have moved to a place where making the moves on underaged girls is OK or where we will elect someone who speaks in vulgar terms about women, as long as you are pro-life and won’t take away my guns. THAT seems to be two steps backward, followed by a #METOO backlash that results in another step backwards while we say “but what about Clinton.”

Ok, counselor. But they are still 100% bogus.

Anyone who cares to check will find that I’ve always regarded Donald Trump as a horrible human being, which is why I threw my vote away on Evan McMullin. Nothing Trump is charged with ever surprises me. Not does it shock me that some of his closest friends and advisors are scumbags, too.

Naturally, Democrats are going to make hay of sexual scandals among Republicans. I don’t blame them! Why wouldn’t they pounce? When a “family values” champion like Larry Craig gets caught soliciting in a bathroom, of COURSE liberals are going to gloat!

But the idea that it’s ONLY Republicans who excuse the misdeeds of their preferred politicians is nonsense. Ted Kennedy remained a God to liberals forever, and he was every bit as slimy as Trump. Back when Bill Clinton was in trouble, many SDMB regulars insisted his crimes were no big deal, and that Ken Starr was just a prude.

It’s human nature, alas, to circle the wagons and defend bad people when they’re part of OUR group. I wish we could ALL agree to kick out miscreants as soon as we discover them, but few of us do.

Roy Moore is a turd. But Massachusetts liberals who repeatedly re-elected Gerry Studds (another guy who liked sex with the underaged) don’t get to claim the moral high ground.

Would you testify to that while taking a polygraph?

Once again, we want recent history - IS CHANGING. Ted Kennedy has been dead for several years. We want examples of Democrats ignoring this behavior in the past 18 months or so, that equals the behavior we saw when the GOP stood behind Roy Moore.

Objection.
That would show only the 'Doper’s opinion, not the fact of whether or not polygraph tests work.

Give it a few more posts and someone will be along to remind everyone how it was the Democrats who were pro slavery.

I guess you didn’t read my OP. I’ll repeat – until very recently (the past year or so), both parties regularly excused mistreatment of women among their ranks. But in the last year or so, the response by the Democratic party to mistreatment by their own members has been far, far superior to the response by the Republican party to mistreatment by their own. The Democratic party has shown signs of changing, while the Republican party has not. This change, even if it’s only a start, is a good thing and hopefully will continue. I would urge you and other conservatives to push your fellow conservatives in power to strive for the same kind of change.

Trump laments lives being shattered by…a ‘mere allegation’

[sic] mine.

The irony fairly drips.

after the "pussy " tape, members of the GOP did criticize Trump and some told him to quit the race. Mitt Romney is 1 example

And when he refused, they did what?

And all of them jumped back on the wagon. They were just trying to distance themselves until they saw it didn’t hurt him.
Did you forget that Romney went begging for the Sec.of State job?

Have the Democrats changed? I remain unconvinced.

There was no chance a Republican would replace John Conyers or Al Franken. So it was safe and easy to sacrifice them. But if and when punishing sexual misconduct comes with a price tag, we’ll see if there’s been real change.

For example, Willie Brown was the top dog in California politics, and he was a horndog. He promoted women who serviced him. One of those women is Kamala Harris, who is sure to run for President in 2020. Will principled liberals shun her? If so, then we’ll know the change is real. If not, we’ll know if was superficial.

If that is the case, it sounds like Kamala Harris was the victim of quid pro quo sexual harassment, not the perpetrator. How on earth would shunning her be a principled stance?

Did Kamala Harris mistreat/abuse women? If so, I certainly wouldn’t support her. I don’t know anything about your assertion, though, or what it has to do with the possibility of Harris abusing or mistreating women. If Willie Brown mistreated/abused women, then I would not support him for any office.

I’ll go so far as to say that if Kamala Harris abused or mistreated women, she should step down immediately. Googling reveals nothing more than rumors that she had an affair with Willie Brown, which, true or not, has nothing to do with mistreatment or abuse of women. If Brown mistreated or abused women (and again, googling reveals nothing more than rumors that he had extramarital affairs, which is unrelated to abuse and mistreatment of women), he should be shunned and I wouldn’t support him for any office.

Sure.

Al Franken won his senate seat by a few hundred votes. He wasn’t seated until the term was started due to a recount. There is no certainty that seat is safe for the Democrats. Minnesota’s rural population has moved more and more red - and we are a heavily divided state between rural Minnesotans and urban Minnesotans. And our suburbs are filled with people concerned with the changing demographics of the state which make for easy pickings for dog whistles.

Nitpick: you’re confusing Paula Jones with Gennifer Flowers. Jones’ story didn’t become public until 1994.

Yeah, I know - it’s hard to keep all of Bill Clinton’s ‘bimbo eruptions’ straight.
