I love it!!! I’ve only been once though, and it was a LOOOOONG time ago (82 or 83).
One reason I can hardly WAIT to get to the states. ROLLER COASTERS!!!

I’ve been there once in the past 15 years, and I even have a roommate who works there now. You all can do whatever you want, but I don’t understand how adults get worked up by Disneyland. It’s so fake and geared for little kids.
I guess I just don’t really do “cute”.
With all due respect, Cardinal, if you don’t like Disneyland, why post in a thread called “The Disneyland appreciation thread”??? You can do what you want but I don’t understand why you would even bother to read it?
I loved Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, The Matterhorn and Star Tours, but my best memory is of the Haunted Mansion (I know it’s lame, but let me explain).
During high school, a bunch of us went down for the day. Mostly couples, and the girls wanted us all to stay together as a group. My girlfriend Jill and I really wanted to spend some time alone but couldn’t find the opportunity. Then the group decided to go to through the Haunted Mansion, which the two of us had been through plenty of times. We spent the entire ride deep kissing and groaping each other in that two-seater cabin. I’ve heard they renovated the Haunted Mansion recently, but I haven’t been back. It would just never live up to my memory of the original.
Murcielago, Haunted Mansion hasn’t undergone any significant renovations.
And I have the same fond memories of Adventures Through Inner Space, aka “the Monsanto Ride”.
The only renovation to Haunted Mansion is during the holidays, where it is redecorated in the “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme. It is pretty cool.
Why did they close the Skyway?
My understanding is that it was to mainly to cut costs. Besides requiring a large number of people to run, it was in major need of repair.
Ah, I’m sure it was the “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme I heard about, musicguy. That does sound kinda cool.
Well, I’ve been going to Disneyland since I was a wee little one too, but my very best memories were my teen years. I remember being dropped off in the morning by my Grandparents when I was 12 or 13 with a group of friends and running and running through that place all day and long into the night.
Since then I have probably visited once a year or so, though I’ve tried to forget the past few years since I went with a group of summer camp kids ;).
I haven’t had the chance to visit California Adventure yet. Maybe I can get a newbie tour from musicguy or CelticCowboy :D.
Heh, I’m sure the ride operators loved you guys! They probably watched the whole thing on camera. Either that, or it happens so damn often that they don’t notice
In 1959, my dad took us 'cross country for six weeks. Six people in a '56 Chevy Bel Air. (I could have killed my younger sister by the time the trip was over).
We camped all the way. Never a night in a motel. My mom may never forgive him.
Disneyland, which had only been open a few years at that point, was one of the highlights. We kids though is great.
But my memories, now that I’m 59 years old, tend to gravitate more to the National Parks, and other adventures on the trip. Disneyland was fun, but so was the experience of the cross-country trip.
Perhaps if I had been the age of my 8-year-old sister.
A decent point about my posting in a “Disneyland Appreciation” thread.
But I’m going to remember this the next time (and there WILL be one) someone comes into a relgion thread to call everyone morons. It’s a given.
I loved the Adventures Thru Inner Space! The eye peering through the microscope seems to be the thing that everyone remembers, along with the illusion of the cars shrinking as you waited in line. Amazing how many people thought the cars were actually shrinking.
I read a funny story about guests who wanted to be intimate on the ride. A dead giveaway was that they would ask the ride operator how long the ride lasted, so they could gauge how much time they had. Ride operators would often tell them that the ride was much longer than it actually was so that when the car exited the ride, the couple would be caught totally unaware.
Oh, and Cardinal, could you possibly be more off-topic. Please give it a rest.
