Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell
less-publicised illustrated kidlit, with a dark, wholly fantastical setting and interesting, if only lightly-realised, characters.
Does suffer from “if-you-enjoyed-Harry-Potter-then-read-this-itis” in the marketing, but holds up on its own merits for me, especially the wonderful illustrations by Riddell. Also has a harder edge to it, with suicide and death being recurring themes.
So, has anyone else read them? What did you think?
I’ve only read the Twig trilogy so far, but will be getting the rest ASAP.
