The old brain of an old broad gets a little fuzzy on the details sometimes and I’m not going to search, but there were a number of posts after the HeatherLee debacle and at the beginning of your romance with Drain that are floating about somewhere in my subconscious.
You seemed to have done some soul searching. You expressed yourself with great candor and humility without getting maudlin. I admired your ability to take the lumps, retain your dignity (or perhaps reGain your dignity) and continue as a substantial contributor to the board.
You’ve made lots of funny posts. You’ve made lots of thoughtful posts. But I felt I watched you grow during that time and I’m glad you came out of it intact.
Flyp, you bastard! You know I can’t flame worth shit!
Anyway, I like this thread. Because you told John (Yue Han) to keep his name, John cut his troll teeth and you spotted Palidork in the same thread.
Seems like only yesterday. This was one of the first threads I remember reading. It may have even been before I registered.
Well this is weird. Some kind of VBulletin silliness. Dunno what to tell ya, Demo.
Just because it is a thread that I feel very strongly about, my favorite post of yours that I can recall is your second post here. (Sorry, the way my screen is set up at work, I cannot see the number of the post on the monitor!)
I’m sure there are other, more appropriate posts but that one just sticks out in my mind as one that I loved when I read it. Of course, it only works within the context of that thread but, oh well!
“…when you’re done blowing out your candles, why don’t you blow me?” I actually got a chance to quote this recently. And I did credit you, Satan, although I got some strange looks when I said, “I pinched that line from Satan.”
[ego stroking reply]Gee, Satan, all of your posts are so insightful, deep, witty, intelligent, and thought provoking that I could never pick a favorite :)[/ego stroking reply]
On the level, you really are a SDMB MVP (most valuable poster), there really isn’t a way to pick a favorite post of yours. There are just so many and for so many different reasons.
Not that you care what I think, but I really admire you. Your posts are always well thought out and always add to whatever the conversation is at the time. Anyone who can do that and get in those great zingers all at the same time is OK in my book.
*TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:
Six months, one week, two days, 3 hours, 24 minutes and 26 seconds.
7685 cigarettes not smoked, saving $960.71.
Extra time with Drain Bead: 3 weeks, 5 days, 16 hours, 25 minutes.
Two of my favourites were already mentioned, but another vote each for the “I wub voo” to Drain Bead, and for “…when you’re done blowing out your candles, why don’t you blow me?”. Although I’m sure there were many more, those were the first two that popped in my head when I read your question.
I liked the one where we were having that big argument, and finally after about 3 pages you admitted you were completely wrong and had been a fool. You then apologized for ever doubting me, and for having the audacity to take the opposite side of an argument from me. You said that you were humbled by my massive intellect and good sense, and how you felt honored that I had taken the time to correct a mere worm like yourself. You then admitted I was your superior in all things.
That was my favorite post of yours.
The thread must have gotten lost in the conversion or something 'cuz I can’t seem to find a link.
My second favorite was when I was just starting on the SDMB. I started a thread called Steak Wasting. Little did I know something similar had recently been done elsewhere. You showed up and pointed this out, and I decided to end the thread.
About five minutes later you showed up and posted again, apparently feeling bad about deflating my aspirations, and suggesting that my thread could stand on its own despite the similarity.
A message board is sometimes such an impersonal thing. I don’t know how many people always remember that there is somebody at the other end of that keyboard, and that a newbie might be discouraged by such a dismissal.
That coming back and changing your mind as well as a thousand other things I’ve seen you do tells me that you never forget you’re dealing with real people.
You have a real talent for empathy, and you use it liberally.
The one you devoted to jenkinsfan – jenkinsfan: One Trick Pony. The time you must’ve spent researching every one of those threads, I can’t even begin to fathom.
Also there was this other thread, about you going to car dealership with no intention of buying a car, but rather, to capatilize on a gift they were giving out if you test drove a car. I don’t remember what you titled it, so I don’t know what to search for.
Favorite is not the word, and you say in the OP that we can use the thread that made us furious or realize what a schmuck you are.
Your initial post here was certainly eye-opening? Jaw-dropping? I’m not the biggest fan of the person you are attacking, but honestly, I think you went too far.
