I have very dim memories of president ike. i recall that there was a short but severe economic recession in 1958. the Federal Government ran a series of dopey TV ads, trying to get people to spend their way out of recession-the thing went like this:
“How to Start A Recession”-about an old man with a hotdog stand. his college age son tells him that there is a recession on-so he shuts his stand down 9anticipating fewer sales). the shorter hours lower his sales, so he cuts back even more-finally he goes out of business entirely. Does anybody know if this clip still exists? And, did it help ike in 1958?
