The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim post-release thread

I see mammoths spawn in at about 100 ft up all the time; I figured they just borrowed the code from Battlefield 2 (people spawn in at the ceiling level sometimes).

Well, I’ll be darned. He’s been riding around in my Midas Luggage for just FOREVER, because I didn’t feel like weighing myself down with him.

I’ll have to see if I have a giant bounty and let him out.

Oh, sure. Blame the Daedra.

Although, to be fair, for a long time I’ve felt that in any Elder Scrolls game, if the question is “Why is this so effed up?” the answer is “Daedra.”

I thought the answer is “Modders.”

Can’t help it, I’m the Divine Crusader! Plus, you don’t see Mara or Julianos trying to burn the entire world. Fuckin’ daedra.

Hey, I just started, but I’m enjoying it so far. Two quick questions: I know that being an Orc lets you into the strongholds without doing any quests. Are there any other similar advantages to the other races? And second, I’d just be curious to see what character combinations other folks have made. In other words, r/s/c? I’m a Redguard mage just now (minons!), though a thiefy-type seems fun.

Outside of different color commentary I can’t think of any.

I really liked my Breton Conjurer/rogue. Strong magic resistance, sneaky/stabby, and can summon nasty minions for fights where sneaking doesn’t work ("I honor my lord by destroying you!")

Nord: 50% resistance to cold
Dark elf: 50% resistance to fire
Argonian: Breathe water (but I’ve never drowned on any character, so this is of little use to me)
Khajit(?): See in the dark. Or, just carry torches or learn Candlelight.

I never use any of the racial abilities (or shouts, for that matter…).

Orcs have Berserker Rage; take half damage and do double damage for 60 seconds, once per day. Very nice for big fights.

Altmer get a +50 bonus to Magicka, and the Highborn power that lets them rapidly regenerate Magicka once per day. Very good for mages. They are also slightly faster than other races due to being a bit taller.

Helps with sneaking; they’ll see torches. They also have the Claws unarmed combat bonus; that can be used for an oddball build or two. One I’ve heard of; a Khajiit mage who uses heavy armor instead of robes, and combines the Fists of Steel perk, the enchantment from the Gloves of Pugilism, and the Ring of The Beast if they have Dawnguard to rely on unarmed attacks for their direct damage.

I never find a use for most Greater Powers because: I always forget to use them. I’ve used the Nord shout twice maybe. I keep forgetting to use the Nightingale version of Frenzy. The “constant +x to y” ones are good.

Haven’t playing Khajit in Skyrim, but in Oblivion, I found it better for them and vampires to get a mod that makes it a toggle instead of a stupid 30s effect.

Yeah; I have a mod installed that does that in Oblivion too. In Skyrim, one of the mods I use is No Blur Night Vision. It removes the blurring effect, makes Night Vision much more usable and less irritating as far as I’m concerned.

Dataminers have found what appear to be hints about the next DLC (assuming that Bethesda didn’t stick the data in there to lead such people astray). New armors, dragon riding, mounted spellcasting, and a trip to Morrowind.

Still waiting for DLC on the PS3 :frowning:

Yeah, came in here to post the same thing but beaten to the punch. Here’s a similar article on IGN.

Sostheim? Maybe that will mean something more with werewolves, that was the focus when the Nerevarine visited it in Bloodmoon. Although Dawnguard (picked it up when it was 30% off on Steam - excellent DLC I thought, if the next ones are like it I’ll be a happy bunny) fleshed werewolves out plenty with the new perk tree.

Wonder how the Skaal are doing. Also hope we hear more from the falmer, or snow elves - a possibility since that’s where their last stand was. Raven Rock would be just a ruin by now, a dunmer in Oblivion mentions it was abandoned and that was 200 years ago. Fort Frostmoth will also be in ruins, the Imperials were struggling in the Third Era to keep hold of the island, now Skyrim itself is in trouble.

Wasn’t there some mention about the Telvanni wizards fleeing to Solstheim in one of the books when Morrowind got wiped out? Telvanni mushroom towers growing out of nordic ruins, I can dig it. Tel Frostmoth, maybe?

I gave up. Traded in my ps3 copy about six weeks ago and finally found the price I was looking for in a used 360 skyrim last week.

Have to say the PS3 DLC fiasco has hurt my opinion of Bethesda as a publisher. As much as I want to by their games, like Dishonored, I’m just not sure I trust them enough to get one as a new release. I feel better waiting to see what is going to happen regarding patches and the like and buy a GOTY edition when everything works.

Next Skyrim DLC confirmed, ‘Dragonborn’. Trailer and info here. Apparently concerns the return of the first dragonborn, so some hardcore dragonborn-on-dragonborn action potential, would be interesting to have shouts used against you (other than the odd Fus Ro Dah the draugr use). Also; dragon mounts. The return of House Telvanni with their mushroom towers, possibly House Redoran? A village there looked a lot like Ald’Ruhn.

Saw what looked like an Ascended Sleeper with modern graphics, and possibly other Ash creatures.

Yeah I saw that too. What will they do now that their god is dead? You also see corprus monsters, rieklings (some mounted), netches, and some sort of vomiting guy.

For those interested, Dragonborn is now available for pre-purchase on Steam; it unlocks February 5th.

And for Playstation 3 players, when the DLCs become available they’ll be half price for the first week.
