The Elephant Dunkirk

This is pretty cool. The remarkable story of how planter Gyles Mackrell organized a team of elephants to rescue hundreds of refugees from monsoon-swollen rivers in Japanese-occupied Burma in 1942 is coming back to light. See it here.

He received the George Medal for his efforts.

I saw the footage on BBC TV last night (Monday night). Mackrell shot it himself.
