I just saw it the other day. The 5 pack of Wrigley’s gum which has long had “25c” actually printed on the wrapper now has “30c” printed on the wrapper.
I don’t know if it has been 25c my entire life (I’m 29) but it certainly has always been 25c as far back as I can remember. Truly we have seen the end of an era.
Thoughts?
(This is my second “gum-related” Thread in less than 30 minutes. If you can find the other one, you win a donkey!)
I’ll be 34 this year. My dad worked for GM and my mom would take me out there on his lunch breaks to see him when I was little. He would come out dirty, hot, tired and with a green pack of Wrigley’s gum in one hand. He always had gum for me. What a fond memory. It does seem like it said 20 cents at one time, but I am not sure my memory serves me correctly on that.
When I was growing up, gum was five cents a pack. Always. Except for the Bazooka Joe bubble gum which was a penny each. When gum went to 10 cents/pack, I stopped chewing it in protest. (Also, I just didn’t like gum all that much.)
I am 40 and I seem to remember it being 5 or 10 cents. There was a era of huge inflation in my childhood though. Things have actually been relatively steady since the early 80’s. I also remember when they went from five to seven sticks in a pack. Now it’s back to five apparently.
Haj
This thread just reminded me that I have an unopened pack of Juicy Fruit in my front pocket.
No, I am not just “happy to see you.”
I remember nickel gum. I also remember penny candy. If you had a dime, you cound buy enough goodies to make yourself sick! Those were the days…
It’s really quite simple. My parents house in Arlington, VA. was worth $20,000 in 1955. Gum was 5 cents/pack.
Their house now sells for $450,000. And your gum is going up to 30 cents/pack.
Sounds like chewing gum is underpriced.
Congratulations chaoticdonkey! We ought to get that in the mail on Monday.
