…well, in 2007. I haven’t been able to find it online, but in today’s paper Lynn Johnston said that after her contract expires in 2007 she’ll retire. Yet another of the greats will bite the dust. Here’s to you Lynn.
[sub]What? She doesn’t want to draw another child going through the teen years?[/sub]
I’m sorry to hear that - I’ve enjoyed reading the strip through the years.
Considering that Michael and Deanna are having their formal wedding this weekend, there’s still lots of room for new stuff to happen. There’s always Liz and Eric, too
2007 is roughly when April graduates high school, too. At that point, I can see it getting repetitive.
Robin
I like “For Better or For Worse”. That’s too bad.
Criminey! She’s been drawing the strip for how many years now, and without the merchandising of so many other stips [sub]kaff…Garfield…kaff kaff[/sub]?! I’d have taken a break much sooner, at least a couple of years ago.
darian00, several papers carry FBOFW on-line, including (but not limited to):
http://www.bayarea.com (must sign in and get password, but you can customize a list of favorite comics)
http://www.comics.com
http://www.ucomics.com
Arizona Central - comics section
Trust me, this is part of my morning routine: coffee and on-line comics. At least I’ll have a few years to wean myself away from it.
Anyway, what is it with Deanna’s mother? And I thought MY mom was a control freak.
I keep waiting for someone to haul off and slap her. And why couldn’t Eric go with Liz to the wedding?
I think it’s more of a wouldn’t than couldn’t.
Exactly. He’s no good for Liz…
Btw, rather than go to a paper for FBOW, go here:
http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/forbetter/index.html
And it looks as though she’s going to keep stirring up contraversy for as long as the strip is running…and more power to her.
</guilty pleasure>
I will always love For Better or For Worse. The reason is that when she did Lawrences coming out series in 1993 I knew I was gay, but was at that point of thinking that there were no other gay people in the entire world, especially not normal ones.
Then that story ark was in the paper, and it reinforced to me that there are normal gay people out there. It truly came at just the right time to keep me from going crazy.
Since then I have followed it, and enjoyed how she works humour in with real life, and I love that her characters age and change. That is what keeps her fresh in my mind.
Jeeves
Jeeves, you ought to write and tell her that. She’s going to be getting a lot of grief in the next few weeks (she always does whenever she features Lawrence). I’ll bet she’d appreciate hearing from you. Here’s Johnston’s official website. You could reach her there easily, if you’d like.
Jess
I usually read it from the official website (see link above in Jess’ post).
Did you read today’s strip? Too bad she also had to provide an alternate strip for some papers.
My god; Deanna’s mother is a love child of Elvis and a space alien.
Any other ideas of what her problem may be?
And today’s is hilarious! Changing the dialogue on that is a crime!
BWAHAHAHAHA
Oh, and the original and alternate are available at:

Why not?
It looks like the Washington Post stood up and ran the original strip. Bravo for them! I agree with {b]Jonathan** - changing the dialogue is indeed a crime.
For Better or for Worse has been a favorite of mine for years, and I will miss it terribly if Lynn does retire the strip in '07. But I confess I always did wonder how she was going to handle the empty nest scenario once April finally went off to college and moved out.
well, dang. good thing i bought all the books so i can read them when the comic strip is gone. ms johnston draws a great comic strip. i guess i just hold onto my farley angel statue. i wonder where she is gonna go with deanna’s mother.
jess, thanks for the link.
I’m shocked by today’s strip!!!
Not the content of the real one for today, but that the local Mullet Wrapper - a bastion of arch conservatism, never met a Bush they didn’t like - ran the original strip!
I bet they get letters!
Better drop an email to their ombudsman to let them know this hetero/Christian appreciates it.
