Doors. Always The Doors when it comes to stuff like this.
Other stuff like this?
I voted the Beatles because I can’t stand the Doors.
Love ‘em both, but narrowly went with the Doors. It’s just so…cinematic (even before Coppola’s masterful use of it).
During my angsty teenage years i listened to The End (Doors) through headphones in a dark room, late at night. Very atmospheric. I particularly liked the line: “No safety or surprise, the End.”
But it’s too silly for me now. Atmospheric isn’t enough.
OTOH, the Abbey Road End still gives me a kick. The solos rock hard without any showing off — just pure rocking fun. And as for the section after the solos, this is Rick Beato’s part-by-part recreation, and it’s impressive.
60s rock and roll, Angst and Fury Division, Los Angeles Brigade. I was there, so it resonates better than the über-band The Beatles, who just blew through town and gave a few concerts.
Overall, The Beatles are in a completely different league than just about any other band in history. But they didn’t do angst well at all. Since that was my standard for judging this contest, Jim wins.
Though I like the Doors just fine, The End is not their best long song. Better than Celebration of the Lizard, but …
So I go with the Beatles. I’ve heard overindulgent solos (and like some of them) but their solos are the very opposite of overindulgent.
If I were forced to listen to an hour of one of these, I’d much prefer the Beatles.
Anyhow, Freud is so 20th century.
The phone rang. She looked at the display and turned to me, “The blue bus is calling us. Why? Why the blue bus? Should I take a chance?”
I prefer the Burt Reynolds/Dom DeLuise movie.
I do believe it was the first R-rated movie I ever saw. I was 10, and my dad took me. I thought that someone had done a remake; I’m glad to discover i was mistaken.
Back to the OP, I think the Beatles are the greatest band ever, but I chose the Doors in this poll.
No option for other? Cuz I got one.
Even though I think the Doors are the most overrated rock band in the history of the Known Universe, I would say their “End” is superior to the Beatles’.
I voted the Doors because the Beatles are overrated… I have fond memories of listening to The Doors on headphones in the dark and the imagery it conjures is very cinematic to say the least. The Beatles song is kinda fluffy.
Not nearly as good as …
But we don’t.
I went with the Beatles. I find The Doors overwrought and exhausting. Conversely, I find the Beatles trite and simplistic (come at me!), but I’ll blame that on their popularity.
I can’t believe this poll is even slightly close. But then I’ve never been a big fan of the Beatles.

ETA: With you, MrDibble.
The first time I heard the Doors’ The End was when I was a teenager and saw Apocalypse Now when it first came out. It was an awesome thing. The Beatles’ The End is a fine piece of music but it’s basically another Beatles song.
Thanks to this thread, I listened to the Doors’ “The End” in its entirety for the first time ever just now. And, sorry, I was not impressed. If I were in the right mood, or under the right influence, I might find it hauntingly effective; but in the mood I actually was in, I just found it self-indulgent wankery.
The Beatles’ “The End” actually is the end. I’ve heard it many times throughout my life, always in its proper context as the last movement (practically) of Abbey Road. And in that context, it’s something special: four great musicians working together for the last time, and at the height of their collective powers.
The Who.
This is the correct answer.
