The ending of Signs <spoilers>

I saw a pirate version of signs a couple of weeks ago at a friends house. I’m not sure where it was taken off – I’m hoping it was a prerelease version that hadn’t finished editing or audience tests yet – the end of it really sucked.

In the final version of the movie (that’s out in the US now, and not here or I’d find out myself) does it end with all the aliens leaving but one which then has a standoff with the family before being watered to death? And is the last shot of Mel putting on a priests collar?

Yes. Good ending. (As you will have noticed, that remaining alien was still around because he had been locked in Ray’s pantry.)

If that really was a pirate version, could I have your friend’s name so I can try to get him prosecuted? I hate thieves.

Good ending? Think on this: “let’s invade a planet where 90% of the stuff on it is deadly to us. And let’s do it naked.”

  2. The movie said they were desperate. They probably were on the brink of extinction, which explains why they took a chance with coming to Earth.

Yeah but you think they’d at least have thought to wrap themselves in saran-wrap or something.

Perhaps they didn’t expect the residents of this planet to actually, you know, use that stuff. We wouldn’t expect aliens to have glasses of acid lying around their houses if were to invade them, would we?

Yeah but if we were going to invade a planet that rained acid we might get raincoats.

Anyway, I actually like signs aside from the last 10 mins or so. Creepiest movie I’ve seen in years. Plus there’s another thread doing a much better job than me of pointing out fallacies in the movie.

Oddly enough all the stuff I don’t like could have been avoided if it ended a bit sooner… say cut out the tv broadcast about the aliens leaving and end the movie right as you realise what the reflection in the tv screen is.

You know, the thing that annoyed me the most about the movie was the ending. Aliens came here, presumably from thousands of light years away. They have the power to make their ships invisible. Yet, they decide to invade on the ground without the common sense to bring any weapons, and they can be defeated with baseball bats and water.
