The Eutychus Appreciation Thread

Eutychus,

I can’t think of a moderator I’d rather be admonished by.

Euty, in his many forms, has been a source of significant validation for me. Between IMing him about nothing in particular and seeing his quick wit (doesn’t come across as much as others’ wit on the board…mainly because he doesn’t post as much as they do) to having first drafts (or second drafts where the only changes were places where I had my facts slightly off) published in Teemings to meeting him in Chicago last year and feeling very close to him (and our sum-greater-than-parts ability to piss Persephone off in a REALLY adorable way:D) …

One moment in ChiDope 2002 stands out in particular regarding Euty. Persephone, Euty and I had run into each other on the bus/train/whatever (I’d gone on a brief trip with Tequila Mockingbird and we were on our way back). I was a bit light-headed (dehydration) and so my sense of humor was more active than it normally is. The metro announcer said “We’re coming to [stop].” And that made me think of something, so I said so, and Euty thought it was hilarious and Persephone was NOT amused (but in a cute way, not a “You did NOT just light my hair on fire, you punk!” way). And of course that just made us laugh harder. At that moment the train started moving again and one of us almost fell, which was even more amusing still.

We eventually got back to the hotel (we had to stop making cheesy references at every metro stop because **Persephone[/b[ looked like she might actually crucify one of us, and I don’t think she’d have been convicted) and stopped in the bar for a bit. I soaked up water, Euty had a coke (but wanted a pepsi, IIRC) and Persephone ordered a Budweiser.

I don’t remember exactly how it came up, but we discussed depression (something with which we are all well-acquainted), meds we’d been on, and eventually something came out of my mouth that went like this:

I was absolutely ecstatic when I met Persephone in NYC last January. And I was equally thrilled (and a bit more humbled than with Persephone) to meet Euty last April.

There is something that, to me, feels not quite complete now that Euty isn’t a moderator. I guess that’s because as long as I’ve been coming here, he was someone I could ask a question (about moderating or relevant stuff) and I knew he’d be able to help. Since he was the mod online (on AIM when I was, that is) the most often, I relied upon him more than a little. And I’m gonna miss that more than a little.

You’re a good man, Euty Brown.

Cafe Society always had the best Stickies.

'nuff said.

Hey, he allowed my stuff to be included in one of the previous Teemings publications.

If he’s idiotic enuff to do that, he’s got my vote of confidence!!

Onya Paddy!

What always struck me about Euty, was his ability to be so involved with the forums he moderated without letting that affect his ability to moderate them. He was in charge, you respected him when the mod hat was on, but he was still one of us posting his thoughts and his Disney and Spongebob obsessions.

Best wishes, Patrick. Wherever you choose to spend your time will be the better for it.

I still don’t know what has happened, but I’m grateful to Euty for

–Publishing a lot of my mad ravings in Teemings

– His vast info and webpage on cartoons

– getting me a copy of a (to me, at least) rare cartoon.

I notice that I haven’t seen his name on any posts since whatever happened, and I hope we don’t lose him from the SDMB.

I am pleased an honored to say that Patrick is a personal friend of mine. He’s funny, gentle, intelligent, loyal, and just one of the best people to walk the planet.

I am a better person for knowing him.

Hope to still see you around, Euty. Glad to see Teemings remains under your care. Good luck in whatever you do.

Good luck to you, Euty! I am sad to see you hang up your Moderator hat here at the SD but I am very glad you will still be heading up Teemings.

I looked for Euty’s “Please do not post complete lyrics to songs” thread, but it’s been taken down. DAMN! That thread contained some of the best Euty tributes ever.

I’ll miss seeing you around here, Eutychus. You’re a big part of what made the SDMB a really cool, wonderful place to be. I’ll miss your humour, and I’ll miss you.

Take care, mate. Wherever you go, know that there are friends here.

Hey Euty–I was fortunate to have had dim sum with you at the last NY MegaDope and I really enjoyed meeting you. And, since you said nice things about my kid, you rate pretty highly with me.

I hope to see you back here soon.

He seems a fine bloke and was an excellent moderator. I hope to see him around here again.

I like Euty beacuse he gave me the all time best throwaway line for squeezing out of tight situations, and because he runs a gigantic industrial printing press the size of a tractor trailer for a living.

“I blame society”

Euty, you’ve contributed a lot to the boards as a moderator and as a member. I hope to see you continue to post here.

As I has said in the earlier threads, I am a frequent poster to the Cafe Society and really appriciated what a fine job Euty in taking care of the forum. I never got a chance to thank you so here it is: THANKS!

Your fine work there was noticed and we benefited from your generous service as a Mod. Thanks again.

I just want to add my appreciation for Euty as a poster, a moderator, and an editor. You’ll be missed.
