BTW, can we get a ruling in advance on England/UK/Great Britain for question 2? As in, are they the same thing? Ditto Scotland/UK I guess.

When I thought of this feud, I actually thought of a rule to consider Scotland Wales and England as different countries rather than the under the “United Kingdom” Flag.
But at least in the case of my post, I was (closing my eyes and) thinking of England when I wrote UK, because the UK is the actual national entity.
Me too, although I figure the food in Scotland is at least as bad as the food in England (by reputation at least), so UK was still a safe choice.
It’s interesting to see the number of people who chose Italian food and French art versus French food and Italian art. I could go either way for the art, certainly, but generally I much prefer Italian food to French.

If I were going to be dropped in a random restaurant in the country in question, I’d go for Italy, but if I had a chance to do some research and seek out a really great meal, it would be France all the way.
All will be counted as UK. Sorry, notfrommensa, but I thought the same way as Tom. You should have specified. It’s a common thing in these Feuds to group them all together as the UK.
I agree, Rebo, I should have specified it. I thought of the feud while I was driving and by the time I PMed you, I forgot the rule. Actually, I had forgotten all about the feud and it surprised me when I saw the thread yesterday.
Meh, I’m just not that fond of French cuisine, comparatively speaking, although I woudn’t turn down a baguette stuffed with butter and Brie.
Perhaps, but on the other hand, French food has a much greater reputation, which matters a lot in feuds. That, and the fact that Italian food seems more “normal” to Americans: If I say I’m going to an Italian restaurant, I might mean Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill (or even, if I’m very uncultured, Pizza Hut). But if I say I’m going to a French restaurant, you’ll probably assume five-star gourmet.
In that case, the three posts quoted above (with my bolding indicating the duplication) should all be disqualified along with Biffy’s. That leaves 38 valid entries, with septimus providing the most recent.
By the way, many people refer to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as countries even though they are component parts of the United Kingdom. See the opening paragraph of this entry for an example of said usage.
It gets even more complicated than that: By some accounts, Ireland as a whole is a country, even though it’s divided into the Republic of Ireland, an independent nation, and Northern Ireland, part of the UK.
:(Jeez, boy am I sorry I submitted this feud.
