The Feud: In Sovet Russia, Feud Answers You! by WormTheRed (game over)

In Soviet Russia - Worm stomp Gonz!

Did you hear about the time that a Soviet car company staged a contest with an American car? The Pravda headlines the next day read “Russian cars place second in international competition. American cars second-to-last”.

46??? Damn. I think that was my worst.

Stalingrad was only worth 14 points. Leningrad was good for 86. Hence the 72-point discrepancy between what you thought you had and what you actually scored.

:smack: Thanks, Sorry to doubt you REBO. mea culpa mea culpa mea culpa.

That Feud was horrorshow, me droogies.

The Worm must be a closet commie with inside info. How can a mid westerner compete on such uneven conditions. I protest. The Worms score must be diminished by the currency exchange between Russia and America. Then all will be right again.

I’m pretty appalled that more people gave the USSR more credit for victory in WWII than the USA. Aside from the fact that they were only involved in the European theater and not the Pacific one (or any of the other, smaller theaters of the war), I think any credit they get for ending it should be balanced out by their complicity in starting it, by making the deal with Hitler to split Poland between them.

Hey, I voted for it because this is the USSR feud, so I figured more people would vote for it. If it were the USA Feud, I’d vote for the USA

And yet, as shameless as I am, I never actually seem to win one of these things :o

The idea is to guess what most other people will say.

And APPALLED? Really? Given the scope of the war on the Eastern Front, which consumed most of Germany? Come on. Appalled over a historical judgment call?

RickJay:

Maybe that’s too strong a word. But considering that the large majority of this board is Americans, I feel that perhaps some are minimizing our importance in the war in order to not appear too much like knee-jerk cheerleaders for the USA. I certainly expected a decent showing for the USSR in this Feud, but I was surprised that it was a majority - and it’s a bigger majority if you subtract those who said USA only because of the war in the Pacific.

Joseph Stalin cost me a place in the top ten. Will that man’s crimes never end?

Considering that deal was made only eight days before the war began, I think we can assume Hitler had already decided to invade Poland. The agreement was more a case of the Soviets making the best deal for themselves over a war that was going to occur anyway rather than an act which initiated that war.

Just curious, but do the results in any way cause you to re-think your views on WWII and how it was taught to you in America?

9/10 top answers for me, and 3rd place. Kind of suprised Mikhail Baryshnikov outpointed Yuri Gagarin, I’ve never even heard of the former.

He’s a dancer, coreographer and I do believe he guest starred in “Sex and the City” - if not him, someone who looked a lot like him.

Oh, it was him. Most definitely him. Sigh.

I’m mildly sad that “guest appearance on tv show” outranked “first man in space”. But not at all bitter that it cost me the win.

Well there’s a lot more to him than that! He defected while the Bolshoi Ballet was touring the US to great fanfare. He was young, gorgeous, one of the greatest ballet dancers to have ever lived — and he captured the imagination of the public. Read here: Baryshnikov - Wikipedia

You’ve never seen such thighs. sigh :o

Would it make you feel better if he was listed as “most famous ballet dancer ever?”

By the way, cmkeller, the Soviets kicked the Japanese Army’s ass so well in their one pre-Poland encounter that the Japanese decided not to engage them again. It also caused them to go with the strategic plan favored by the navy that ultimately put them on a collision course with the US.
I still voted for the USA, but the Axis would have had a much, much easier time of it without either country.
